Module 6 A

Skinny – very thin usually in an unattractive way


Muscular – having big muscles (დაკუნთული)
Frizzy – very tightly curled (ძალიან ხვეული, ხუჭუჭა)
Agonized – extremely anxious
Account – a written or spoken description of an event
Rejected – turned down, not accepted (უარყოფილი)
Unflattering – less attractive
Puberty – the stage in a person’s life when they develop from a child into an adult
because of changes in their body that make them able to have children (გარდატეხის
ასაკი)
Adulthood – the stage in which a person reached his/her full size and strength
Alter – change
Puppy fat – fat children have on their bodies that disappears when they grow older or
taller
Low self-esteem - დაბალი თვითშეფასება
Bombard with something – to make somebody face a great deal of something
Glossy magazine – (in American English – slick) a magazine printed on shiny high-
quality paper which contains a lot of colour photographs and advertisements and is
usually about famous people, fashion, beauty etc.
Fashion shoot – shoot (გადაღება) for glossy magazines
Airbrushed - photoshopped
Flawless complexion – perfect skin
Epic films – a film, book or poem which is long and contains a lot of action, usually
dealing with a historical subject
Flex muscles – to bend especially a muscle, arm or leg in order to exercise or show
how strong and muscular you are
Toned – firm and strong
Rippling muscles – muscles built up as a result of strenuous work-out and which look
very attractive.
Enhance – to improve the value, quality or attractiveness of something
Enhance one’s appearance – to improve one’s appearance
Feel inadequate – feel very inferior
Inadequate – not sufficient
Ride out the change – to overcome this difficult period of changes
Resist the temptation - გაუძლო ცდუნებას
Peers - თანატოლები
Odd – strange or unexpected
Get teased – to be laughed at
End up - აღმოჩნდე, საბოლოოდ აღმოჩნდე
Do wonders = has a very good effect
Boost – to cause to increase
It will boost your self-confidence - აგიმაღლებთ თვითშეფასებას
Features – თვისაბები (ან სახის ნაკვთები)
Get the hair highlighted – to have light colours put in one’s hair
Have ears pierced – გაიხვრიტო (გაახვრეტინო) ყურები
Pluck eyebrows – the act of removing eyebrow hairs using tweezers (პინცეტი) for
cosmetic reasons
Adjust – to get used to a new situation by changing your behaviour

Gossip – a person who enjoys talking about other people


Whinger – someone who is always complaining
Killjoy – a person who stops others enjoying themselves
Snob – someone who thinks they are better than others
Troublemaker – someone who likes causing problems
Scatterbrain – someone who is easily disorganized
Chatterbox – someone who just won’t stop talking
Bighead – someone who thinks they are very important
Drama queen – someone who tends to exaggerate their emotions
Party animal – someone who loves to have a good time
Nosy parker – someone who pries into other people’s business
Bossy boots – someone who is always telling others what to do
Steamroller – a person who has little regard for other people’s feelings
Take great delight in doing something – feel great pleasure, satisfaction or happiness
while doing something
Pass on bad news – tell somebody bad news heard from somebody else
Exaggerate – to make something seem larger, more important, better or worse than it
really is.
Die down – to become less intense, quiet
Contribute – to give or add to something
Hostile – angry and unfriendly towards somebody
Walk all over someone – is to treat them very badly or defeat them very easily
Without a second thought – to perform an action without taking time to consider the
consequences
Intimidate – to frighten or discourage somebody using threats (დაშინება)
Take something seriously - სერიოზულად აღიქვა
Have a point – make sense
Assertive – being able to state one’s needs and opinions clearly, so that people take
notice
Stand up for yourself - დაიცვა თავი
Back down - უკან დაიხიო
Drag – to make somebody do something they don’t want to do.
To drag someone into an argument - ჩაითრიო კამათში
Show off – to behave in a way which is intended to attract attention or admiration,
and which other people often find annoying
Trivial – not serious, not important
Bizarre – odd, strange
Downside – disadvantage
Dismiss – to decide that something or someone is not important and not worth
considering (e.g. He dismissed my idea as stupid.)
Come up with an idea, solution etc. - შესთავაზო იდეა, პრობლემის გადაჭრის
გზები ა.შ.
Deep down - გულის სიღრმეში (e.g. I believe deep down that he is right, but I can’t
admit it)
Moan – to make a low sound when in pain or unhappy (კვნესა)
Handle – to cope with, manage or deal with
Put up with something – to tolerate or accept something that is unpleasant or not
desirable.
Sympathy - თანაგრძნობა
Get a word in edgeways – hardly manage to say something while a person speaks, as
he/she talks non-stop.
Have big hearts – to be very kind and generous
Get the message – understand what he/she is trying to say
Stub your toe – to hurt your toe by accidentally hitting it against a hard object
Toe - ფეხის თითი
Life-threatening – something, such as an illness, that is a threat to a person’s life.
To blow things out of proportion – to exaggerate something (გააზვიადო)
Couldn’t care less – indifferent
Dominate – to be the most powerful or most important in a situation
Triumph – a very important victory

Module 6 C & D

Chant – a group of words repeated over and over again at e.g. football matches etc.
Engraving – a picture printed onto paper from a piece of wood or metal into which a
design had been cut
Engrave (verb) – to cut words, pictures or patterns into the surface of metal, stone,
wood etc.
Ferocious – extreme, fierce (სასტიკი)
Flee (fled, fled) – to leave a place quickly
Go into battle – to begin to fight with an opponent
Outnumber – to be exceeded in numbers (გადააჭარბოს რაოდენობრივად)
Pit – a large hole in the ground
Slap – to strike something with an open hand and produce a loud noise
Stamp your feet – to tap the foot to the ground to produce noise
Stick out your tongue – ენის გამოყოფა
Switch = change
Tribe – ტომი
Triumph – a very important victory
War cry – a battle shout (საომარი შეძახილი)
Weapon – იარაღი
Family emergency – a sudden unexpected occurrence within a family unit that
requires immediate action
To be stuck in traffic – to be delayed due to many vehicles on the road

Scratch one’s head – to rub the skin on your head with your nails, usually when you
are puzzled over something (მოიფხანო თავი)
Raise one’s eyebrows - აწიო წარბები (მაგ. გაოცების ნიშნად)
Bite one’s nails – ფრჩხილების კვნეტა
Intensely – extremely, strongly
Point out – აღნიშნო, მიუთითო
Analyse (verb) – გაანალიზება
Analysis (noun) – ანალიზი
Rub one’s ear – მოისრისო ყური
Distinguish between lies and the truth – to tell the difference between lies and the
truth
Pick up the skills during the time – to obtain or get some skills mainly through
practice
Forensic psychologist – a person who has studied human behaviour and presents
findings (აღმოჩენები) to a criminal justice system
Conceal – to keep something or somebody from being seen (დამალვა, დაფარვა)
Awkward situation – difficult to manage (უხერხული სიტუაცია)
Spin a yarn – tell a story or present information that has been made up
(გამოგონილი)
Top tip – მთავარი რჩევა, მინიშნება
Spot (verb) – to notice, to find (შენიშნო)
Fibber – a person who tells a trivial and harmless lie
Overcompensate – to do more than necessary, usually to cover something up
Maintain eye contact – keep looking into people’s eyes / keep an eye contact
Hold eye contact for more than six seconds – ექვს წამზე მეტხანს არ მოაშორო

Muscle spasm – a slight unintentional twitch of a muscle
Stall – to attempt to slow something down in order to gain more time
Body Idioms:
To keep an eye on something – watch to protect something / someone
To pull the wool over one’s eyes – trick / deceive somebody
To get cold feet – feel nervous before an event
To give somebody a hand – help somebody
To pull one’s leg – joking
To get off one’s chest – talk about something, which has been worrying you for a long
time, with somebody and as a result of the conversation feel better

Pod of dolphins – group of dolphins


Scar – ნაიარევი
Flipper – the arm-like part of a particular sea creatures, such as seals and penguins,
used for swimming.
Wound – a deep cut in the skin resulting in loss of blood
Mimic – to copy the way in which a particular person usually speaks, moves etc. or
the noise that an animal makes, especially to amuse people
Encounter – unexpected meeting
To speak back – to answer back
What’s on their minds – what they think about particular matter
Evolve – to develop gradually
Evolved brain – an advanced brain
Remarkably skilled – very talented
Raise one’s young – bring up their offsprings (ნაშიერი)
Resolve conflicts – to settle disagreements
Aquatic mammal – a group of warm blooded animals that give birth to life offspring
and live in water.
seek something from someone – ask for something
Vocal chords – tissue (ქსოვილი) found in the throat that vibrates to produce sound
when air is passed over it.
High frequency sound – a sound that is high-pitched and often hard to hear (მაღალი
სიხშირის ბგერა)
Make out – to see, hear or understand something with difficulty (გაარჩიო)
Cetacean (adj.) – connected with any of various types if mammal that live in the sea
like fish
Correspond to – to match or be similar or equal
Seaweed – a sea plant (წყალმცენარე)
Pattern – a recognizable way in which something is done, organised or happens
Decode – to discover the meaning of information given in a secret or complicated way
At the trial stage – გამოსაცდელ ეტაპზე
Impact – a powerful effect (გავლენა)
Enable – make something possible
Two-way communication – ორმხრივი ურთიერთობა
Extraterrestrial – coming from outside the planet of Earth
Device – ხელსაწყო
Distant galaxy – a large system of stars and planets that is located very far away
Adapt – adjust
Make contact with – to communicate
Delight (verb) – to give a lot of pleasure
Flock – a group of birds, sheep or goats
Herd – a group of animals of one kind that live and feed together (cows, elephants)
Pack – a group of wolves, dogs etc.
Pride – a group of lions
Shoal – a large group of fish swimming together
Swarm – a large group of insects moving together
Training ground – an area that is suitable for training

Module 6 G & H

Crack your knuckles – თითების ტკაცუნი


Fidget – to keep moving one’s hands or feet slightly or changing one’s position
slightly because of being nervous, bored or excited (ცქმუტვა)
Get tongue-tied – to be unable to say what one is thinking or feeling
Have negative body language – to display the signs of disagreement or negativity by
acting or presenting oneself in a certain way
Insist on your own way – to demand that something be done in a particular way
contrary to other people’s suggestions
Put your foot in it – to do or say something embarrassing and get yourself into trouble
Talk down to somebody – to speak to a person in a way which makes them feel
inferior
Stick out one’s tongue – ენის გამოყოფა
Affection – friendship and love one has for others

Communicate – to give (something)from one person to another
Diseases are sometimes said to be communicated if they are given from one person

information.

Sac – a part of a plant or animal which is like a bag and often contains liquid (პარკი)
Pattern – a design made from lines or shapes
Texture – the way material looks or feels (ტექსტურა)
