lesson Yes, Ann?
(ENGAGE) Very good!

Today, we are going to talk about the ecosystem. At the end

of the lesson, you are going to:
1. Classify living from non living things;
2. Draw an example of ecosystem (food web or food chain);
and
3. Relate the importance of surroundings to people and other
living things.

Why do you think we need to study about this lesson? This is important because
ecosystem is essential for
the humans. The
ecosystem promotes
stability, support life
system and we rely on
ecosystem in order to live
and survive.
Very Good!
C. Presenting What is an ecosystem?
examples/ Yes, Rj! It is a place for living
instances of things.
thelesson Good! Your idea is right.
(ENGAGE) An ecosystem is a group or community composed of
living and non-living things and their interactions with
each other. They can be natural as well as artificial.
Every ecosystem has two components, namely, biotic
components and abiotic components. Biotic
components refer to all living organisms in an ecology
while abiotically refers to the non-living things. These
biotic and abiotic interactions maintain the equilibrium in
the environment

I will let you watch the video presentation then you are
going to jot down important notes because later on, I
will be asking you questions about the video.

D. Discussing
new concepts and
practicing new The significance of Biotic and Abiotic
skills #1
(Modelling) Components
Biotic components can be classified into three
categories:

Producers: These include all the autotrophs. They

use light energy and synthesize food on their own,
e.g. plants, green algae, etc.

Consumers: These include all the heterotrophs

that directly or indirectly depend on producers for
their food. Consumers are further categorized as
herbivores, carnivores, omnivores and parasites.

Decomposers: These include saprophytes which

act on dead matter and decay them for their
nutrition.

The relevance of biotic and abiotic components in

an environment appears when they start interacting
with each other. For example, biotic elements like
plants provide food for other organisms. The soil is
the abiotic element which supports the growth of
the plants by providing nutrients and other
essential elements. Biotic components depend on
abiotic components for their survival and help in
the formation of abiotic factors like soil, nutrients,
etc.

Food Chains and Webs

A food chain is a chain which shows how
organisms are linked to each other through food. A
food web shows how two food chains are
connected. A single food web consists of many
food chains. Every food chain begins with
producers and ends with top carnivores.

Just like in arts, you will be able to practice your skills and
creativity by doing some artwork and masterpieces. The
drawing and colors are all made up by using the principles
and elements of art. And in dramatizing, you practice the art
of acting and portrayal of some roles in that play.
GROUP 1

Draw an example of the things that you can see in the
ecosystem. Classify them whether they are living or non
living thing.

GROUP 2
BRING ME
Bring at least one living thing if you can
bring more than one I will give you a prize
and 5 non-living things. Present your answer
in front of the class.

of the surroundings or ecosystem.
