1. Verify that all of the components of the transmission control valve are clean and
free of foreign material prior to assembly.
2. Inspect all components for wear and replace the components, if necessary.

3. Install poppet (108), spring (106), and retainer (107) in manifold (100) .
4. Use Tooling (B) in order to install retaining ring (105) in manifold (100) .
5. Install two dowels (102) and screen (104) in manifold (100) .
6. Install O-ring seal (103) and O-ring seal (101) in manifold (100) .
7. Install plate (99) on manifold (100) .
8. Install four load pistons (92), four spools (93), four orifices with O-ring seals (94),
four orifices (95), four inner springs (96), four slugs (97), four retainers, and four
outer springs (98) in selector and pressure control valve (46) .
9. Install the O-ring seals on adjuster assemblies (85) and adjustment screw (86) .
10. Install adjustment screw (86), hard washer (87) and nut (88) on adjuster assembly
(85) .
11. Install four adjuster assemblies (85) in selector and pressure control valve (46) .
12. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Transmission and Transmission Control Valve"
for the procedure of setting adjuster assemblies (85) .
13. Install the O-ring seals on three plugs (89), orifice (90) and plug (91) .
14. Install three plugs (89), orifice (90), and plug (91) in selector and pressure control
valve (46) .
15. Install three inner springs (82), four outer springs (83), the three spacers, 14 shims
(84), and four piston selectors (81) in selector and pressure control valve (46).
There is only one spring under piston selector (81) on the far right side of the
selector and pressure control valve (46) .
16. Install inner spring (77), outer spring (78), spool (79) and slug (80) in selector and
pressure control valve (46) .
17. Install the O-ring seal on hex socket plug (76).
18. Install hex socket plug (76) in selector and pressure control valve (46). Tighten
hex socket plug (76) to a torque of 75 ± 7 N·m (55 ± 5 lb ft).
19. Install ball (72), spring (73), retainer (74) and retaining ring (75) to spool
assembly (69). Use Tooling (B) in order to install retaining ring (75) .
20. Install slug (68), spool assembly (69), spring (70) and stop (71) in selector and
21. Install the O-ring seals on adjuster assembly (64) and adjustment screw (65).
22. Install nut (67), hard washer (66), the plug, and adjustment screw (65) in adjuster
assembly (64) .
23. Install adjuster assembly (64) in selector and pressure control valve (46). Tighten
adjuster assembly (64) to a torque of 75 ± 7 N·m (55 ± 5 lb ft). Refer to the
Testing and Adjusting, "Transmission and Transmission Control Valve" for the
correct procedure to set adjuster assemblies (64) .
24. Install nine O-ring seals (63) on manifold (60) .
25. Position manifold (60) to selector and pressure control valve (46).
26. Install five socket head bolts (61) and the washers that secure manifold (60) to
selector and pressure control valve (46) .
27. Install the O-ring seals on cartridge assemblies (62) .
28. Install cartridge assemblies (62) in manifold (60). Tighten the cartridge
assemblies (62) to a torque of 50 ± 5 N·m (37 ± 4 lb ft).
29. Install four coil assemblies (59), four locknuts (58), and the washers to cartridge
assemblies (62). Tighten the locknuts (58) to a torque of 20.0 ± 2.5 N·m (15 ± 2
lb ft).
30. Install two dowels (55) in selector and pressure control valve (46).
31. Install O-ring seal (56) and O-ring seal (57) in selector and pressure control valve
(46) .
32. Install selector and pressure control valve (46) and plate (53) on manifold (60) .
33. Install the O-ring seals to adjuster assembly (35) and adjusting screw (50) .
34. Install nut (52), hard washer (51) and adjustment screw (50) to adjuster assembly
(35). Tighten nut (52) to a torque of 48 ± 6 N·m (35 ± 4 lb ft).
35. Install the eight O-ring seals from eight nipple assemblies (42) .
36. Install four load pistons (43), four spools (44), four orifices with four O-ring seals
(45), four retainers (46), four inner springs (47), four slugs (48) and four outer
spring (419) in selector and pressure control valve (4) .
37. Install four adjuster assemblies (35) to selector and pressure control valve (4).
Tighten adjuster assemblies (35) to a torque of 75 ± 7 N·m (55 ± 5 lb ft). Refer to
the Testing and Adjusting, "Transmission and Transmission Control Valve" for
the procedure of setting adjuster assemblies (35) .
38. Install eight nipple assemblies (42) and the O-ring seals in selector and pressure
control valve (4). Tighten eight nipple assemblies (42) to a torque of 14 ± 4 N·m
(10 ± 3 lb ft).
39. Install eight dust caps (41) on eight nipple assemblies (42) .
Note: Switch (38) is present only on all wheel drive motor graders.
40. Install switch (39), switch (38), the adapter, and the bonded seal to selector and
pressure control valve (4). Position the adapter to the original orientation.
41. Install wire assembly connectors, the bolt, and bracket (40) on selector and

42. Install the O-ring seals on two plugs (36) and plug (37) .
43. Install two plugs (36) and plug (36) in selector and pressure control valve (4) .
44. Install four inner springs (34), four outer springs (33), shims (32), the spacers, and
four piston selectors (31) in selector and pressure control valve (4) .
45. Install nine O-ring seals (30) in manifold (29) .
46. Position manifold (29) to selector and pressure control valve (4) .
47. Install five socket head bolts (28) and the washers in manifold (29) .
48. Install the O-ring seals on four cartridge assemblies (27) .
49. Install four cartridge assemblies (27) in manifold (29) .
50. Install four coil assemblies (26) and four locknuts (25) to selector and pressure
control valve (4). Tighten locknuts (25) to a torque of 20 ± 2.5 N·m (15 ± 2 lb ft).
51. Install stop (23) and spring (24) to plunger assembly (13) .
52. Put spring (24) under compression. Use Tooling (A) to install retainer (22) to
plunger assembly (13) .
53. Install piston (21), inner spring (20), eight spacers (19), retainer (18), and outer
spring (17) to plunger assembly (12) .
54. Put spring (17) and spring (20) under compression. Use Tooling (A) to install
retainer ring (16) to plunger assembly (13) .
55. Install coupler (14) and lip type seal (15) to plunger assembly (13). Tighten
coupler (14) to a torque of 4.5 ± 1.0 N·m (40 ± 9 lb in).
56. Install plunger (13), lip type seal (15), and coupler (14) as a unit in selector and
57. Install the O-ring seals on adapter (12) .
58. Install adapter (12) in selector and pressure control valve (4). Tighten adapter (12)
to a torque of 75 ± 7 N·m (55 ± 5 lb ft).
59. Install the O-ring seal on the plunger.
60. Install the plunger (not shown) that is over coupler (14) on selector and pressure
control valve (4) .
61. Install spool (11) and slug (10) to selector and pressure control valve (4) .
62. Install O-ring seal (9) to adjuster assembly (8) .
63. Install adjuster assembly (8) to selector and pressure control valve (4). Tighten
adjuster assembly (8) to a torque of 75 ± 7 N·m (55 ± 5 lb ft).
64. Install O-ring (6) in selector and pressure control valve (4) .
65. Install O-ring (7) (not shown) in selector and pressure control valve (4) .
66. Install two dowels (5) in selector and pressure control valve (4) .
67. Position selector and pressure control valve (4) to the transmission control valve
body (3) .
68. Position cover (2) to the transmission control valve (3) .
69. Install two socket head bolts (1) and the washers in the transmission control valve
(3). Tighten two socket head bolts (1) to a torque of 30 ± 4 N·m (22 ± 3 lb ft).
End By: Install the transmission control valve. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly,
"Transmission Control Valve - Install" for the correct procedure.

45. Install nine O-ring seals (30) in manifold (29) .

48. Install the O-ring seals on four cartridge assemblies (27) .

49. Install four cartridge assemblies (27) in manifold (29) .

57. Install the O-ring seals on adapter (12) .

59. Install the O-ring seal on the plunger.

62. Install O-ring seal (9) to adjuster assembly (8) .

68. Position cover (2) to the transmission control valve (3) .
