EARTHING CALCULATIONS REPORT

PROJECT : GIZ OPEN MARKET

DATE: DEC.2022
BASIS AND ASSUMPTIONS
Basis Of Calculation

Characteristics of the electrical power supply shall be as follows :

* Low voltage = 380 Volt
* System frequency = 50 Cycle/sec

Input Data and Assumptions

* Earthing Calculation is based on BS 7430:2011 + A1:2015

* All conductors used in buried earthing Network are bare stranded copper conductors.
* Depth of burial of earth ring is considered as 700 mm.
* Earthing system resistance at consumer end shall not exceed the following:
- Power Earthing System 2 ohms.
- Clean Earthing System for light current equipment 0.5 ohms.
* Power Earthing conductor size is considered based on fault
level current at 15KA as a worst maximum value and fault duration of 1s is considered for 400V system
* Clean Earthing conductor size is considered based on fault
level current at 10KA as a worst maximum value and fault duration of 1s is considered for 400V system
* A standard earth rod (1.2m long & 20mm diameter) is considered for earth electrode for power and clean earth network.
* for achieving lower resistivity, soil treatment bentonite material shall be used in
earth pit for power and clean earth network. Soil resistivity of Bentonite considered 2.5 Ohm.m as per IEEE Std.80, clause 14.5.
1- CALCULATION OF MAIN EARTHING CONDUCTOR FOR POWER EARTH NETWORK FOR THE SHELTER

K
where :-
A cross section area of the main earthing conductor (mm2)
I fault current (ampere) 15000
t duration of fault current (seconds) 1.00
K material coefficient of the main earth conductor (A.sqrt(sec.)/mm2)

K = α * SQRT { LOGe ( ( T2+β ) / (T1+β) ) } 181.47

(for copper)
where :-
T2 maximum permitted final temperature of the conductor ( c ) 250
T1 ambient temperature of the conductor ( c ) 30

SELECTED CROSS SECTION AREA FOR THE MAIN COPPER CONDUCTOR (mm2) = 95.00 (mm2)

3- CALCULATION OF EARTH RESISTANCE FOR STRIP OR ROUND CONDUCTOR
According to BS 7430:2011 +A1:2015 Equation 9.5.5

Rta = 1.24 ohm

4- THE COMBINED EARTH RESISTANCE OF THE RODS & CONDUCTOR (LOOP) AS FOLLOWS

1/R = 1/Re + 1/Rta

RT = Combined system earth resistance (ohm)
