Lesson Idea
☐ Teacher-directed: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations.
☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic for
presentation and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. Products of
learning will be uniquely designed. Teacher simply facilitates the learning in a lesson like this.
☐ Project-based and/or Publishable: Students are completing projects to demonstrate their learning
and the projects can be shared outside of the classroom. This objective could be reached by
displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom
blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an outside source.
Managing the technology/engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that
gets students actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts? How will you manage the
classroom behaviors on the technology:
As students are creating their own visual representation about pollution, I will project a timer
on the board that shows how much time they have to complete their task. If students run out
of time, they can finish whenever they have free time or do so at home, whichever one they
prefer. Students will also be encouraged to collaborate together and work in groups as
needed, depending on the digital tool they are using. I will also have the task written on the
board with all requirements that are needed. (In short, easy to read, bullet point format)
revolutionary in the teaching world because this allows students to be comfortable showing
what they have learned, instead of being nervous that they will not understand or feel
comfortable using the one format that the teacher has chosen. Providing students with
options and choices allows them to feel comfortable in their learning experience, then they
will be able to share their findings in their own unique way. In this lesson, I am giving
students many different options to choose from in order to represent pollution and how it
affects the environment. This allows all students to be in control of how they represent their
new knowledge, which keeps students engaged and allows them to think creatively.
