North-Indian
Kingdom-
Pala Dynasty
INTRODUCTION:-
Pala Dynasty, ruled from 8th to 12th
century. The ruling dynasty throne was
in Bihar & Bengal. Founder was,
Gopala, he was a local cheiften who
rose to power in the 8th century.

POLITICAL STRUCTURE :-
• Gopala's ascension was an important political event
• The other rulers acknowledged the military and
political supremacy of Dharmapala.
• The structure of Pala’s followed the appointment of
the Prime Ministers.
• Pala Empire was divided into separate ‘Vuktis’
(Provinces).Vuktis were subdivided into ‘Vishayas’
(Divisions) and then into ‘Mandalas’ (Districts).
Other smaller units were Khandala, Bhaga, Avritti
etc.
EDUCATION AND SOME
LITERARY WORKS:-
• Buddhist texts were the earliest form of Bangla
language.
• Different books including on various subjects such as
on philosophy, the books existed Agaman Shastra by
Gaudapada etc. Other books comprise of medicinal
books. Atisha compiled more than 200 books.The
greatepic Ramacharitam was written by Sandhyakar
Nandi the court poet of Madanpala

ART & ARCHITECTURE:-


• The Pala style was inherited and continued even
under the Sena Empire.
• Deity figures became more rigid in posture, and
figures were heavily loaded with jewellery; they
very often have multiple arms.
• Palas built a number of monasteries and other
sacred structures.

Kingdom-
Pallava
Dynasty
INTRODUCTION:-
The Pallava dynasty subsisted from
275 CE to 897 CE, ruling apartof
southern India. They achieved power
after the decline of the Satavahana
dynasty, in which the Pallavas served
as feudatories. Pallavas became a
significant power duringthe reign of
Mahendravarman I (571–630 CE) and
Narasimhavarman I (630–668
CE)and governed the Southern parts of
the Telugu Region and northern parts of
theTamil region for about 600 years
until the end of the 9th century.

EXTENT:-
POLITICAL STRUCTURE :-
During the seventh century, the Cholas slowly declining
by the authority of the Pallavas. Vatapi (Badami) was
occupied by the Pallava king Narasimhavarman, he
defeated the Chalukyas. The Kalabhra uprising was
crushed by the Pandyas, Chalukyas and the Pallavas
jointly.

LITERARY WORKS:-
Alwars represent the religious literature of the Pallava
period. Perundevanar was patronized by Nandivarman
II and he translated the Mahabharata as
Bharathavenba in Tamil.
unique form of Grantha script, which is a type of
Brahmic script, was used. The Pallavas were great
patrons of learning. Their capital Kanchi was a centre
of learning.
Ghatika at Kanchi was popular and it attracted
students from all parts of India and abroad.
ART & ARCHITECTURE:-
Pallava art is divided into 4 parts:
1. Mahendra style (600-625 AD)
2. Mammala style (625-674 AD)
3. Rajasimha and Nadivarman style (674-800 AD)
4. Aparajita style (early 9th century)
Most of the art was dedicated to lord Shiva
The Kailasanatha temple in Kanchipuram and the
Shore Temple built by Narasimhavarman ||
