WRITING SKILL
TOPIC- DESCRIPTIVE PARAGRAPH
A descriptive paragraph is a collection of multiple sentences to convey a distinct message of a single
person, place or thing. It begins with a descriptive sentence that clearly states the topic that will be
rolled out in the following sentences. A well-written descriptive paragraph pulls in all five senses to
engage the reader. The use of smell, sight, touch, sound and taste in expressive language captivates the
reader on many levels. If done well, your short piece of descriptive writing will have the opportunity to
leave a strong impression on the reader.

ESSENTIAL POINTS OF DESCRIPTIVE PARAGRAPH- (PERSON)

Appearance

How to start a descriptive essay about a person? Clothes make the man! So, it should be the first part
of your writing. Describe facial features, height, weight, hair colour, eye colour, clothes, and so on.

Manners

After that, you can describe the most typical acts and behaves of this man or woman. If you decided
to consider famous people, it could help to detect the name of your subject from the very beginning.
For example, if you say that this man fought against apartheid and spent 27 years in prison to fight for
his people and community, it will not be a problem to assume that it is Nelson Mandela.

Character traits

This part is probably the most difficult because you have to describe the appearance of this person
without any additional help. Just analyse photos and write your text. However, if you need to consider
the most significant character traits, it’s recommended to read memoirs or look for articles of
experienced historians.

Emotions

You can watch videos or analyse special materials to figure out the emotional state of your subject.
Don’t forget to mention whether this human is phlegmatic , optimistic, stern etc. Don’t forget to mention
its sense of humour as well.
