This report outlines the process of preparing for, conducting, and analyzing an interview with
Sr. Mohd Shah bin Seeron, a licensed surveyor located in Johor, Malaysia. The objective of
the interview was to acquire insights into the expectations, prerequisites, and difficulties
encountered by certified surveyors, as well as to comprehend the essential talents and
attributes essential for achieving success in this occupation. The preparation phase
encompassed extensive research on the surveying profession, thorough comprehension of the
interviewee's background, formulation of pertinent questions, logistical planning, and
adherence to ethical principles. The results of the interview emphasized the significance of
possessing both technical expertise and interpersonal abilities in the field of surveying. Mr.
Mohd Shah stressed the need to acquire hands-on expertise in surveying equipment and
software, a solid ethical basis, and ongoing professional growth. The report provides
recommendations for students aspiring to become licensed surveyors, based on the

INTRODUCTION
The preparatory phase is crucial in establishing the groundwork for a triumphant interview. It
entails conducting research on the occupation, comprehending the legal and practical
components of surveying, and devising pertinent and perceptive inquiries. Our team
concentrated on certain crucial aspects to adequately prepare:
1. Preliminary Investigation:
We initiated our research by examining the surveying profession, encompassing the
necessary qualifications, the extent of responsibilities, and the legal regulations that
regulate surveying in Malaysia. This enabled us to get a comprehensive
comprehension of the discipline and facilitated the development of pertinent inquiries.
3. Question Development:
Utilizing our research findings, we developed an extensive compilation of inquiries
designed to investigate diverse facets of the surveying occupation. The purpose of
these questions was to prompt comprehensive answers regarding the technical, legal,
and practical difficulties encountered by licensed surveyors.

4. Logistical Planning:
We organized the practical aspects of the interview, such as arranging the timing,
selecting an appropriate venue, and ensuring we possessed the required recording
equipment. The planning was crucial to provide a pleasant and favorable atmosphere
for the interview.
5. Ethical Considerations:
We examined ethical rules to guarantee that our interview procedure complied with
principles of confidentiality, consent, and professionalism. We drafted consent
documents and ensured that Sr. Mohd Shah bin Seeron was thoroughly briefed about
the objective of the interview and the intended utilization of the gathered material.
By dedicating time and exerting effort in these preliminary measures, our objective was to
carry out an interview that would not only acquire useful information but also demonstrate

BACKGROUND SERVICE:

Jurukur Maya is a land surveying-based company located in Saleng, Senai, Johor. The
company uses Licensed Land Surveyor, Sr. Hj. Mohd Shah Bin Seeron’s license is currently
supervised by three managers, Sr Shahrim Bin Ahmad, Mr Abdul Manaf Bin Mhapob, and
Mr Norhadi Bin A. Hamid. The company specialized in land surveys, topographic surveys,
hydrographic surveys, aerial mapping, and the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS).
The company was first established in the year 2011 and clients are already aware of the
company’s proficiency in surveying due to the company’s long history and good service.
Figure 1.1 shows the logo of Jurukur Maya and below stated the vision and mission of the
company.

INTERVIEW SESSION (Q&A)
I am looking for an employee who can apply everything he has learned in the field of
surveying for work on-site and in the office. Can understand the concept of survey
work and its methodology.
For on-site assignments, you can use surveying equipment such as total station and
GNNS including how to download and upload measurement data. Can work in all site
conditions especially challenging as in Shrubs and Wetlands. Keep all equipment in
good condition. Having a driving license is an advantage.
For tasks in the office, you need to know how to use software that is always used such
as AutoCAD and CDs. Can calculate the measurement data according to the
specifications set by JUPEM.
Every employee must have self-confidence and self-confidence when carrying out
work. Need to a review for each work done so that no mistakes are made. This is
because of a mistake a small one can cause great uncertainty to the Company. For
example, when it's wrong make setting out pile point. Losses incurred by the piling
Company will be claimed by the Surveyor Company.

2.2 Training Provided
For new employees, I will usually put them under the supervision of a senior
employee experienced to monitor and teach the work involved. I also send related
courses to strengthen the skills of my employees.
3. How do you keep your workers up to date on the latest land surveying
technologies and methodologies?
To strengthen skills with new technology in the field of surveying, every employee
will be sent on a course.

2.3 Performance of UiTM Students
2. What are your impressions of UiTM students' land surveying performance and
preparation?
So far I am very satisfied with their skill as can use commonly used measuring
equipment and software. They also understand work methods and can work without
supervision or with minimal supervision.
I think UITM students have the talent to develop their careers at a higher level and I
always support them.
In my opinion, academic performance is necessary for all students, but a way for them
to translate what they learn into the field of work is very important for their careers. In
terms of understanding and efficiency in work
For me, all graduates from educational institutions are the same, the only difference is
that is the ability of the individual himself such as discipline while working and
determination to learn.

3.1 Conclusions
The conversation with Sr. Mohd Shah bin Seeron yielded significant insights regarding the
expectations and prerequisites for land surveyors in the professional domain. During our talk,
we identified some essential factors that are vital for comprehending the preparation and
implementation of the interview process for individuals seeking to become licensed
surveyors.
Initially, Sr. Mohd Shah highlighted the significance of implementing surveying knowledge
in actual scenarios, both at the physical location and inside the office environment.
Proficiency in operating equipment such as total stations and GNSS, together with
competence in software applications like AutoCAD and CDS, are indispensable abilities.
Furthermore, there is a high level of appreciation for soft qualities such as self-control,
meticulousness, and adaptability to demanding circumstances.
Maintaining strict adherence to professional and ethical standards is crucial in the field of
surveying. Surveyors must prioritize precision in their work to prevent substantial monetary
damages. This entails verifying work meticulously to avoid mistakes and maintaining high
moral principles in all assignments. Mr. Mohd Shah emphasized that even minor errors can
have significant financial consequences, underscoring the need of attention to detail.
The industry promotes and supports ongoing professional growth. Novice employees often
receive instruction from seasoned senior personnel and are given chances for additional
learning and accreditation. Staying current with the most recent technology and processes is
also a top focus, which is accomplished by participating in frequent training courses. The
organization owned by Mr. Mohd Shah provides continuous support for education to ensure
that their surveyors maintain a high level of proficiency and knowledge.
Finally, Mr. Mohd Shah holds a favorable opinion of UiTM graduates, acknowledging their
expertise in utilizing surveying instruments and software, as well as their capacity to function

autonomously or with less oversight. He noted that students from UiTM demonstrate a high
level of readiness in the practical parts of surveying and possess the ability to advance their
careers with appropriate guidance and self-control.
3.2 Recommendations
Based on the acquired insights from the interview, numerous suggestions can be proposed for
students who are in the process of preparing for a profession as licensed surveyors:

institutions. This encompasses the act of actively seeking guidance from seasoned experts,
actively participating in workshops that are relevant to one's field, and actively engaging in
hands-on training sessions.
By incorporating these suggestions, those wishing to become surveyors can effectively equip
themselves for the challenges of the field and improve their chances of achieving a
prosperous surveying career.
