SECTION 14215

ELECTRIC ELEVATORS

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.01 RELATED DOCUMENTS:

A. Drawings and general provisions of Contract, including


General and Supplementary Conditions and Division-1
Specification sections, apply to work of this section.

B. Refer to other sections of these specifications for related


work which is not work of this section, including electrical
service with fused disconnect switches for elevator system,
hoistway, pits, and machinery rooms with access, lighting,
communications, ventilation and services.

1.02 DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

A. Extent of electric elevator work is indicated on drawings, in


schedules and by provisions of this section.

B. Types of electric elevator service required include the


following:

1. Passenger elevators.

C. Definitions: Electric elevators are hereby defined to include


elevators in which cars are hoisted by ropes over power-
driven traction sheaves, complete components, equipment,
machines, controls and devices as indicated and as
required for safely operating elevators at rated speed and
capacity. comply

D. Elevator schedules indicate required performances, controls,


capacities, features and finishes for each elevator. Available
in the technical offer

1.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE:

A. Installer Qualifications: Either the elevator manufacturer or a
licensee of the manufacturer, who has not less than 5 years'
successful experience with the installation of similar
elevators. comply

B. Regulatory Requirements:

1. Elevator Code: Except for more stringent requirements


as indicated or imposed by governing regulations,
comply with applicable require-ments of the "American
Standard Safety Code for Elevators, Dumbwaiters,
Escalators and Moving Walks" (ANSI A17.1) published by
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers,
hereinafter referred to as the "Code." Comply as per
EN81-1

2. NFPA Code: Comply with applicable NFPA codes,


and specifically with sections relating to electrical work
and elevators.Comply as per EN81-1

3. Fire Resistance of Entrances: Comply with NFPA No. 80,


and provide units bearing UL labels with 30-min.
temperature rise on labels.Comply with note doors are
E-120(120min/ 2hours) fire Rated

4. NEII Standards for Handicapped: Except as otherwise


indicated, comply with NEII "Suggested Minimum
Passenger Elevator Requirements for the handicapped",
including clearances, handrails, locations for signal
equipment and similar provisions. partially comply with
EN81-70

1.04 SUBMITTALS:

A. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's technical product data


and installation instructions for each principal component or
product, and include certified test reports on required
testing. List and describe features of control system,
performances, and operating characteristics. Attached

B. Shop Drawings: Submit plans, elevations and details of car


enclosures and hoistway entrances. Prepare elevatoring
diagrams to show service to each level. Will be provided at
after issuance L.O.A.

C. Samples: Submit samples of exposed finishes of car
enclosures, hoistway entrances, and signal equipment; 200
mm squares of materials and 300 mm lengths of running trim
members. Comply

D. Maintenance Manuals: Submit bound manual for each


elevator or group of elevators, with operating and
maintenance instructions, parts listing, recommended parts
inventory listing, purchase source listing, for major and critical
components, emergency instructions, and similar
information. Comply after installation

E. Certificates and Permits: Provide Owner with copies of all


inspection/ acceptance certificates and operating permits
as required by governing authorities to allow normal,
unrestricted use of elevators. Comply after installation

1.05 INITIAL MAINTENANCE AND WARRANTY:

A. Maintenance: For a period of 3 months following date of


substantial completion, provide full maintenance of elevator
work on a daily-surveillance basis. Correct operational faults
and restore/replace defective/deteriorated components
and finishes. Lubricate operational units and supply
expendable materials as required for proper operations and
maintenance. Comply with 36 Months ( 3 Years) not and as
indicated 3 months

B. Warranty: Provide special project warranty, signed by


Contractor, Installer and Manufacturer, agreeing to replace/
repair/restore defective materials and workmanship of
elevator work during warranty period. "Defective" is hereby
defined to include, but not by way of limitation, operation or
control system failures, performances below required
minimums, excessive wear, unusual deterioration or aging of
materials or finishes, unsafe conditions, the need for
excessive maintenance, abnormal noise or vibration, and
similar unusual, unexpected and unsatisfactory conditions.
The warranty period is 18 months starting on date of
substantial completion of elevator work. Comply with 36
Months ( 3 Years) not and as indicated 18 months

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.01 MATERIALS AND COMPONENTS:

A. General: Provide manufacturer's standard pre-engineered


elevator systems which will comply with or fulfill the
requirements of elevator schedule sheets at end of this
section; or, at manufacturer's option, provide custom
manufactured elevator systems which will fulfill requirements.
Where components are not otherwise indicated, provide
standard components, published by manufacturer as
included in standard pre-engineered elevator systems, and
as required for a complete system. Comply

B. Elevator Machines and Equipment:

1. General: Except as otherwise indicated, provide


manufacturer's standard variable-voltage traction type
hoisting machines; geared type for speeds up to 400 fpm.
Comply with note up to 1 m/s not as indicated 2.03 m/s

2. Power Control: Except as otherwise indicated, where


variable- voltage is required, provide manufacturer's
standard solid-state power converters, for use with
manufacturer's motors on elevator machines (A.C. or
D.C.).comply

3. Inserts: Furnish required concrete inserts and similar


anchorage devices for the installation of guide rails,
machinery and other components of elevator work; where
installation of devices is indicated as work of another
specification section. comply

4. Guide Shoes/Rollers: Except as otherwise indicated, provide


manufacturer's standard rollers for speeds in excess of 200
fpm.comply

5. Car Frame and Platform: Manufacturer's standard welded


steel units designed to withstand impacts and wheel loadings
indicated. Comply with for L3-L6 & N/A for L1-L2

C. Control Systems:

1. General: Except as otherwise indicated, provide


manufacturer's standard control system for each elevator as

required to provide automatic operation of the type
indicated, and defined in the Code as "Operations."comply

2. Multiple-Car Elevator Control: Except as otherwise indicated


where more than one elevator is scheduled in a group
operation, provide solid-state modular microprocessor to
control car movements in a zoned operation. Provide
automatic dispatching of selected cars in a regulated
sequence in response to hall calls; with automatic response
of system to changes in demand for different traffic
conditions including heavy incoming, heavy 2- way, heavy
outgoing and light off-hours as variations of normal 2-way
traffic. Comply if applicable

D. Auxiliary Operations/Controls:

General: In addition to primary control system features,


provide the following controls or operational features for
passenger elevators, except where otherwise indicated:
1. Interphone comply intercom 3 way
2. Overload Protection Device comply
3. Emergency Car Light with Charger comply for 1 hour
4. Safety Door Edge N/A
5. Door Open/Close Button Comply
6. Car Arrival Gong Comply

E. Signal Equipment:

1. General: Except as otherwise indicated, provide
manufacturer's standard signal equipment for each
elevator or group of elevators. Provide car control station
and car position indicator in each car, hall push-button
station on each landing for each elevator or group of
elevators but not less than one station for each 4
elevators in a group, and other units as indicated.
Provide illuminated buttons and signals, which light- up
when activated and remain lighted until call or other
function has been fulfilled; fabricate of acrylic or other
permanent translucent plastic. Except for buttons and
illuminated signal elements, fabricate signal equipment
with exposed surfaces of stainless steel with
manufacturer's standard directional polish or satin finish.

2. Car Control Stations: Provide flush-mounted glass-fiber


reinforced plastic containing call button for each landing
served, and containing other buttons, switches and
controls required for specified car operation and control.
Mount as shown, or scheduled, and at height complying
with NEII "Suggested Minimum Requirements for the
Handicapped". If not otherwise indicated, mount in return
panel adjacent to car door. Provide operating device
symbols as required by Code. Mark other buttons and
switches with manufacturer's standard identification for
required use or function. Where indicated, equip each
freight elevator with auxiliary car control station mounted
on side of car at height to facilitate operation by lift-truck
operator without leaving truck.Comply

3. Car Position Indicator: For passenger elevator cars,


provide digital led dot-display type, located near top of
car. Include direction-of-next travel signal if not provided
in car control station.Comply

4. Hall Push-Button Station: For each group of passenger


elevators, locate between 2 elevators at center of group,
or at location most convenient for approaching
passengers. Provide type with flat face plate for surface
mounting on wall finish (body of unit recessed). Provide 2-
button station where passengers can travel either
direction; 1-button station where only one direction of

travel is available, and indicate which direction that
is.Comply

5. Hall Position Indicator: Provide digital-display type signal,


located above each hoistway entrance at ground floor.
Match materials, finishes and mounting method with hall
push-button stations. Comply

6. Telephone: Provide rough-in for telephone hand set in


each car, contained in flush-mounted cabinet and
complete with identification and instructions for
use.Comply for L1-L2

7. Alarm System: Provide emergency alarm bell properly


located within building and audible outside hoistways,
equipped to sound automatically in response to
emergency stops and in response to "Alarm" button on
each car control station. Provide additional weatherproof
emergency signaling device of minimum 80 decibel
rating, complying with Code and mounted on building
exterior in location as shown or directed.Comply

F. Passenger Elevator Car Enclosures:

1. General: Except as otherwise indicated, provide


manufacturer's standard pre-engineered car enclosures,
of the selections indicated. Include ventilation, lighting,
ceiling finish, wall finish, access doors, doors, power door
operators, sill (threshold), trim, accessories, and floor finish
unless indicated as not work of this section. Provide
horizontal sliding doors of manufacturer's standard flush
panel type, with operation and number of panels as
indicated. Provide manufacturer's standard protective
edge trim system for door and wall panels, except as
otherwise indicated. Comply

2. Materials and Fabrication: Provide selections as indicated


for each car enclosure surface; manufacturer's standards,
but not less than the following:

a. Stainless Steel: AISI type 302/304; with manufacturer's


standard directional polish or satin finish.

b. Aluminum Sills: Extruded aluminum, with grooved


surface, 6 mm thickness; mill finish.

c. Fabricate car door frame integrally with front wall of
car. Comply

d. Fabricate car with recesses and cutouts for signal


equipment. Comply

e. Luminous Ceiling: Painted steel sheet with fluorescent


lighting through milky white plate (inside) and acrylic
hald mirror plate.comply

f. Hard Wearing Vinyl Tiles Floor Covering: ASTM,


Compo-sition of 1 or 2, 300 mm x 300 mm x 3 mm;
color/pattern selected by Architect from available
choices in tile industry. Prepared to Receive Marble

3. Handrails: Provide manufacturer's standard stainless steel


handrails, on side walls and back wall unless otherwise
indicated; either continuous or panelized. Comply for L3-
L6 for L1-L2 Chromed Aluminum

4. Door Edge Protective Device: Provide retractable edge


shoe on leading edges of elevator entrance doors which,
upon contacting an obstruction in entrance, causes doors
to stop and reopen.n/A

5. Photo-Eye Detection Device: Provide electronic photo-


eye device with timed cut-out, projecting dual light
beams across car entrance, which, when interrupted, will
cause closing doors to stop and reopen. Provide keyed
switch in car operating panel for disconnecting photo-eye
device.Comply

G. Passenger Hoistway Entrances:

1. General: Except as otherwise indicated, provide


manufacturer's standard, pre-engineered, hollow metal
type, sliding, door-and- frame hoistway entrances;
complete with track systems, hardware, safeties, sills and
accessories. Match car enclosure doors for size, number
of door panels and door panel movement. Provide
frame-section size and profile to coordinate with hoistway
wall construction as indicated.

2. Materials and Fabrication: Provide selections indicated;
manufacturer's standards, but not less than the following:

a. Stainless Steel Frames: Formed stainless steel sheet, AISI


Type 302/304; with manufacturer's standard directional
polish or satin finish. Comply with St St 316

b. Stainless Steel Door Panels: Flush stainless steel


construction, AISI type 302/304; with manufacturer's
standard directional polish or satin finish. Comply with
St St 316

c. Aluminum Sills: Cast or extruded aluminum, with


grooved surface, 6 mm thickness; mill finish. Comply

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.01 INSPECTION:

A. Prior to commencing elevator installation, Installer shall


inspect hoistways, hoistway openings, pits and machine
rooms, as constructed, shall verify all critical dimensions, and
examine supporting structure and all other conditions under
which elevator work is to be installed. Notify Contractor in
writing of any dimensional discrepancies or other conditions
detrimental to the proper installation or performance of
elevator work. Do no proceed with elevator installation until
unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected in a manner
acceptable to the Installer.Comply

3.02 INSTALLATION OF ELEVATOR SYSTEM:

A. General: Comply with manufacturer's instructions and


recommendations for work required during installation.

B. Welded Construction: Provide welded connections for


installation of elevator work where bolted connections are
not required for subsequent removal or for normal operation,
adjustment, inspection, maintenance and replacement of
worn parts. Comply with Codes and standards for
workmanship and for qualifications of welding operators

C. Coordination: Coordinate elevator work with work of other
trades, for proper time and sequence to avoid construction
delays. Use benchmarks, lines and levels designated by
Contractor, to ensure dimensional coordination of the work.

D. Sound Isolation: Mount rotating and vibrating elevator


equipment and components on vibration-absorption
mounts, designed to effectively prevent transmission of
vibrations to structure, and thereby eliminate sources of
structure-borne noise from elevator system.Comply

E. Lubricate operating parts of systems, including ropes, as


recommended by manufacturers. Comply

F. Alignment: Coordinate installation of hoistway entrances


with installation of elevator guide rails, for accurate
alignment of entrances with cars. Where possible, delay final
adjustment of sills and doors until car is operable in shaft.
Reduce clearances to minimum, safe, workable dimension
at each landing. Comply

G. Leveling_Tolerance: 12 mm, up or down, regardless of load


and direction of travel.Comply

H. Grout sills with non-staining, non-shrink grout. Set units


accurately aligned with and slightly above finished floor at
landings.Comply

3.03 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL:

A. Acceptance Testing: Upon nominal completion of each


elevator installation, and before permitting use of elevator
(either temporary or permanent), perform acceptance tests
as required and recommended by Code and governing
regulations or agencies. Comply

B. Operating Tests: Load each elevator to its rated capacity


and operate continuously for 30 minutes over its full travel
distance, stopping at each level and proceeding
immediately to the next. Record temperature rise of elevator
machine during 30- minute test period. Record failures of
elevator to perform as required. Comply

C. Advise Contractor, Owner, Architect and Inspection
Department of governing agencies, in advance of dates
and times tests are to be performed on elevators. Comply

3.04 PROTECTION:

A. At time of substantial completion of elevator work (or portion


thereof), provide suitable protective coverings, barriers,
devices, signs or such other methods or procedures to
protect elevator work from damage or deterioration.
Maintain protective measures throughout remainder of
construction period.Comply

B. Provide similar protective measures for elevator units which


will be placed in temporary service, including inspection and
maintenance service during period of temporary
service.Comply

3.05 INSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE:

A. Instruct Owner's personnel in proper use, operations and


daily maintenance of elevators. Review emergency
provisions, including emergency access and procedures to
be followed at time of failure in operation and other building
emergencies. Train Owner's personnel in normal procedures
to be followed in checking for sources of operational failures
or malfunctions. Confer with Owner on requirements for a
complete elevator maintenance program. Comply

B. Make a final check of each elevator operation, with Owner's


personnel present and just prior to date of substantial
completion. Determine that control systems and operating
devices are functioning properly.Comply

C. Continuing Maintenance: Installer shall provide a continuing


maintenance proposal to Owner, in the form of a standard
yearly (or other period) maintenance agreement, starting on
date construction contract maintenance requirements are
concluded. State services, obligations, conditions and terms
for agreement period, and for renewal options. Comply
