1. HVAC: HVAC stands for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning. An HVAC system is a technology used
in buildings to control the indoor climate, including temperature, humidity, and air quality. The primary
components of an HVAC system work together to provide a comfortable and controlled environment.
The mall’s HVAC system ensures a comfortable shopping environment by maintaining optimal
temperature and air quality, IOI City mall’s HVAC system is more directed towards green energy and
sustainability. As mentioned by Dato’ Voon, CEO of IOIPG. “The GBI certification of IOI City Mall marks an
exciting milestone in our Sustainability Journey for IOI Properties Group. It reflects the Group’s
commitment to operate responsibly, minimizing our impact on the environment, as we continue to
enhance our value proposition while safeguarding the environment for future generations,” Furthermore,
the mall employs a Thermal Energy Storage (TES) system, which is a highly efficient cooling system that
chills water during non-operational hours.
2. AIR HANDLING AND PIPING EQUIPMENT SYSTEM: to reduce the energy used by the system IOI City
Mall uses high-performance glass and wall materials to decrease heat accumulation. Aside from that, its
double roof design, which includes mechanical and electrical equipment rooms as well as solar PV
panels, lowers heat transmission. equipped with chilled water thermal energy storage tanks with a
combined capacity of 62,000 cubic meters which contribute to the efficient use of electricity. When we
move into the plumbing system in a large mall, the plumbing system functions by collecting wastewater
from various sources, including restrooms and facilities. Pipes convey the waste to a municipal sewage
system or an on-site treatment facility. Drainage systems ensure proper wastewater removal, and
ventilation systems prevent gas buildup. Grease traps may be used in food service areas. Adequate
plumbing infrastructure is crucial for maintaining hygiene and ensuring proper disposal of sewage in
compliance with local regulations. As specifically the malls’ plumbing systems information Is not

shoppers between floors, ensuring accessibility. Additionally, escalators provide a seamless and
timesaving means of traversing distinct levels, contributing to a smooth and enjoyable shopping
experience within the mall.
5. ELECTRICITY: IOI City Mall supports environmental measures, such as offering over 14,000 parking
spots with an automatic license plate recognition system. Aside from enabling contactless payment for a
more sanitary experience, the system uses ticketless parking to prevent the issuing of printed parking
tickets, therefore reducing paper waste and carbon ink production. Solar panels were erected on the
rooftop of IOI City Mall in 2020 as a value of environmental ethics through green activities, resulting in
8,533 MWh of power and a 5,922 tCO2 reduction to date.
The importance of well-maintained mechanical and electrical systems in huge shopping complexes like as
Putrajaya's IOI City Mall cannot be emphasized. These systems are critical to ensuring that the facility functions
properly, is safe, and operates efficiently. The mechanical systems, which include elevators, escalators,

Similarly, electrical systems are required to power critical components such as lights, security systems, and
electronic devices. A collapse in the electrical grid might cause extensive power outages, interrupting regular
activities and jeopardizing security measures. Consider a scenario in which the lighting system fails in a crowded
retail center; this not only creates a safety issue owing to reduced visibility, but it may also cause fear among
visitors.
In real life, failing to perform normal maintenance or ignoring potential problems with these systems might have
disastrous repercussions. A faulty ventilation system, for example, might jeopardize air quality, endangering the
health and well-being of both customers and staff. Electrical failures can start flames as mentioned in the journal
“A total of 32 electrical accident cases was recorded in Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah as of Sept 30, with 16
cases resulting in death, The Energy Commission's Consumer Affairs Unit, senior deputy director, Fairus Abd
Manaf, said the incidents occurred in homes and factories and a fatal case in Melaka was due to electric shock
when current flowed from the zinc roof.” endangering people and property. Incidents like this imperil not only the
immediate safety of mall patrons, but also mark the establishment's brand and threaten its long-term profitability.
Furthermore, given modern malls' increasing dependence on technology for security and monitoring, any failure
in the electrical infrastructure might jeopardize the efficiency of these measures, leaving the premises open to
theft or unwanted activity.
