IV. PROCEDURE (Lesson Development)


A. ELICIT:

Activity: Arrange Me!

Last time, we discuss about the characteristics of stars. These characteristics are
brightness and color. The brightness of the star is dependent on its absolute brightness and
its distance from the earth. As part of part of our review, we will divide the house into 2
groups. You will be given sets of colors. I need 5 representatives from each group to do the
task. For each correct task that you will do, you will have 5 points for each member and 3
points if not. Note, only those groups that can do the task correctly within the shortest period
will be entitled for those points.

Task 1: Arrange the following colors of stars from hottest to coolest.


Task 2: Arrange the following colors of stars alternately from coolest to hottest.

Given a plain map of stars, draw any pattern, name it, and tell a story about your figure. Tell
us your bases for coming up with your figure.

 Different constellations are visible depending on two things: your location on earth and
the time of the year.
 As the earth revolves around the sun, the seasons change and different constellations
are visible to observers on earth at different times of the year.
 Early people first use constellations was probably religious, determining when to sow
or harvest for farmers and others use it for navigation.

Sew 1 constellation of your choice using a piece of “8x5” cloth and any colorful thread that
you would like. Your creativity in TLE garments is highly encouraged. This will serve as your

Procedure: Connect the dots following the given coordinates (x,y) in order to show the
constellation that may be observed in the Philippine sky at different times of the year. Then,
name the constellation formed after connecting the dots. Letter A is done for you.

Objective: Discuss whether or not popular beliefs and practices with regard to constellations
and astrology have scientific basis.
