Dear Sir/Madam
SCHOOL- BASED LEARNING
We would like you to involve them in all educational activities of the school as it is
part of their responsibilities and means of development. Student teachers are under
your supervision for the duration of their stay at your school and they must obey all
rules for teachers like daily attendance and willingness to assist where necessary.
They should be in the classroom at all times. Please feel free to contact me if you
experience any problem.
SEMESTER 1
Students need to observe ALL lessons presented by their mentor teacher(s). Each
student must present at least 3 lessons, in the SP methodology to the mentor
teacher. Students must prepare these lessons on the official university lesson plan
forms and mentor teachers must assess them on the official university assessment
sheets. These assessments may take place in grades 7 - 9. All school-related
activities must be recorded on the form DAILY LESSONS OBSERVED, LESSONS
TAUGHT AND SCHOOL-RELATED ACTIVITIES. (See SBL PORTFOLIO.) Should
you want them to teach more than the required lessons, please do so, but only under
the supervision of the mentor teacher. These lessons must also be fully prepared on
the official Lesson plan form of the university which we use during training. They
might also need the assistance of their mentor teacher to complete a number of
assignments.
Mentor teacher
We request mentor teachers to discuss with the student teachers the lesson to be
presented to the lecturer. This must be done in good time. Please, no revision
lessons! Each student teacher must present at least 6 lessons, three in each
FET methodology to the mentor teacher. Student teachers must prepare these
lessons on the official university lesson plan forms and mentor teachers must assess
them on the official university assessment sheets. These assessments may take
place in grades 10 – 12.
4
Daily recording of activities
Students need to observe ALL lessons presented by their mentor teacher(s). All
activities must be recorded on the form DAILY LESSONS OBSERVED, LESSONS
TAUGHT AND SCHOOL-RELATED ACTIVITIES. (See SBL PORTFOLIO)
Assignments
All assignments must be completed.
Please do not accept any student teacher(s) whose name/s does/do not appear in
this letter. Without your continued cooperation in this regard, our professional task of
moulding our prospective teachers for this noble profession, would be difficult, if not
totally impossible.
Yours sincerely

DEPARTMENT OF PROFESSIONAL AND EDUCATIONAL STUDIES
Dear Sir/Madam
First Semester:
Second Semester:
We require that student teachers present six lessons, three in each of their FET
methodologies which must be recorded on the official university lesson plan
form. Please assess these lessons carefully on the official university
assessment sheet and discuss these assessments with the student teachers
afterwards. Please, no revision lessons!!
We request you therefore to take strong leadership in planning the daily activities of
the student teachers(s) by:
6
- textbooks, resource materials and teaching methods to be used in the
classroom
- seating arrangements – personal space for the student teacher(s).
- normal daily class routines and extra-curricular activities offered by the
school.
- expectations of what the student teacher(s) is/are to do while in your
classroom
- what to do when unfamiliar problems and situations arise and how to
handle it, e.g. a learner suffers an epileptic fit or a fist fight breaks out
between learners, etc.
- suggestions and tips for preparing learning activities and media.
It is expected of student teacher(s) to offer their help where possible. Please make
them feel part of your daily activities and expose them to a variety of learning
experiences. We thank you in advance for the positive influence you are going to
have in the lives of young student teachers. Without your cooperation it would be
impossible for us to provide properly trained teachers for our beloved profession.
Yours sincerely
