Fill in the gaps

This question tests your understanding of language and context (the situation
around a piece of writing). It is worth 5 marks in your controlled assessment.
Although this isn’t a large amount of marks compared with the 20 mark story, if
you know how to answer these questions, it will allow you to gain a few extra
marks should you drop any during the assessment.

How to approach the question:

1. Read the word bank given to you.

2. Read the passage given to you and see if any of the key words naturally
make sense in the gaps.
3. If still unsure, read each sentence repeatedly and work your way through
each key word until there is one that sounds suitable in the gap.

Have a go at these practice questions.
