Answers to each question should not exceed 40 words.
4. Section C- Question no. 25 to 29 are short answer type questions, carrying 3 marks each. Answers to
each question should not exceed 60 words.
5. Section D- Question no. 30 to 33 are long answer type questions, carrying 5 marks each. Answers to each
question should not exceed 120 words.
6. Section E- Question no. 34 to 36 are source-based questions with three sub-questions and are of 4 marks
each.
7. Section F- Question no. 37 and 38 are map-based questions, Geography (3 marks) and History (2
marks). Attach the map with your answer sheet.
8. There is no overall choice in the question paper. However, an internal choice has been provided in a few
questions. Only one of the choices in such questions have to be attempted.
9. In addition to this, separate instructions are given with each section and question, wherever

30. Explain the mechanism of rainfall with the help of a well labelled diagram. 2+3

Ans
1. As the hot air rises, it reaches high in the atmosphere where it cools down due to the
presence of low temperature there. Thus, the water present in the form of water
vapours condenses into tiny droplets of water or crystals of ice.
2. In due course of time, these tiny particles join and form clouds. Due to further
cooling, these tiny droplets join and form larger droplets.
3. In the course of time, these droplets become so heavy that the air cannot hold them.
Hence, they fall as rainfall or snowfall depending upon the atmospheric temperature
of the region.

31. Explain the formation of soil with the help of a labelled diagram. 1+4
Ans.
1. It is a very slow process. It takes thousand of years to form a thin layer of soil.
2. The weathering process breaks the rocks into small particles. These are than carried away
by water, wind etc. And later get deposited at a new place. Such soil is called transported
soil.
3. But, when the soil is formed by the weathering of a parent rock and remains present at a 5
same site, it is called residual soil.
4. the soil forming process continues over a long span of time. Its starts developing in
layers one over the other. The layers are called Horizons.
5. From bottom to top, the lowest Horizon is called Bed Rock, then comes the horizon of
weathered rock and it is followed the sub soi and top soil. The topmost horizon is rich in
Humus.

Ans.
1. In its early stage, the river is young. It flows over steep mountains where its rate of
erosion is maximum.
2. Due to the down cutting work of a river, it forms striking youthful features like ‘I’
shaped and ‘V’ shaped valleys, waterfalls, etc.
