The Day When Everything Suddenly Stopped

By: Daisy Joyce S. Torres

The sun was shining brightly when I woke

up. Then I began thinking, isn’t today
Monday? Why didn’t Nanay wake me up? I
looked through my window and saw the
weather was fine.

7
I tidied up my bed and went downstairs. I
saw Nanay watching the news on the TV. I asked
“ Nanay, are classes suspended today? How
come you did not wake me up?”
“ Yes Ben, President Duterte announced in
the news last night that classes would be
suspended because it’s not safe for children to
go to school and to prevent everybody from
getting sick.” Nanay said. “ Where is Tatay? Is he
at work?” I asked.
“No Ben, he went out to buy
food and supplies. We might be
staying inside the house for a while.”
Nanay replied.
I sat beside Nanay after eating
breakfast and watched the news with
her. I saw streets are empty, malls were
closed down, and there were no
jeepneys and tricycles on the streets.
My friends stayed inside the house and
not allowed to go outside to play.
I felt sad after I watched the
news but I should obey what my
parents told me that is to stay at
home. I went in my room to pray for
my family and friends to be safe and
not to get sick and hope that
everything will be alright.
