history of Badminton
The game’s exact origin is unknown although there are claims
that it can traced to ancient Greece and China more than two
years ago.

Historians claim that the modern game of badminton is a

direct descendant of “battledore and shuttlecock”

In 1873 “battledore and shuttlecock” was introduced in the

Duke of Beufort’s summer home of badminton of
Gloucestershire, England.

A rival claim has it that modern badminton evolved from the

version of the game known as “Poona”. Poona was first played
by the British in Poona, India where it flourished in the 1870
before it was brought back to britain by the returning officers.
Today full control of the sports badminton, from changing
and updating of the laws to sponsoring major
international competitions, is in the hands of the
INTERNATIONAL BADMINTON FEDERATION(IBF).
