Examination Rules & Regulations

National Examinations: Engineering Studies / Business Studies

All examinations conducted at Berea Technical College are under the rules and regulations of
the Department of Higher Education & Training (DHET). Candidates must abide by these rules
and regulations as set out below during every examination:

A. Reporting time to College for an Exam

1. Candidates must arrive at the College by 8:00 on the day of examinations.


2. Candidates must be seated in their respective examination venues by 8:30 after which
time the Senior Invigilator will close the doors.
3. Students arriving after 08:30 will have to complete Annexure U – Candidate letter of
warning: Late arrival for an exam as per DHET regulations.
4. As from January 2020, NO late coming will be allowed for all DHET examinations.
5. Candidates arriving late after 09:00 at the examination room will not be allowed in to
sit for the examination.
6. In the event of any delays caused by outside factors (eg. Transport, strikes, protests etc.)
it is the responsibility of the candidate to make arrangements to arrive promptly at the
College.
7. The examinations are set by the DHET and cannot be rescheduled by Berea Technical
College. Rules for latecomers as indicated above will apply.

B. Examination Permits / Timetables

1. The examination venue lists will be displayed on the College notice boards for ALL
examination papers at least a week before the commencement of the examination. If you
experience any problems with examination venues contact the examinations department
immediately.
Note: it is the responsibility of the candidate to collect his/her examination permit well
before the commencement date of the first examination shown on the provisional
timetable..

C. Admission into an Examination Venue

1. On entering an examination venue it is compulsory for you, to produce to the invigilator


at the door your Examination timetable, Issue slip (blue or green) , RSA ID and
Student card. You may only be seated at the desk number allocated to you as per the
seating plan.
2. Outside each examination venue, seating plans will be displayed, in examination number
order.
3. Once you have identified your seat number, present yourself to the invigilator at the
door. Ask for assistance if you cannot find your examination number on the seating plan.
4. Ensure that you write in the venue allocated to you on the seating plan.
5. Consult with your invigilators if you experience any difficulties.
6. NO Cell phones, bags, pencil cases, headgear, calculator covers, electronic devices,
refreshments etc. are allowed into the examination room. Candidates are requested NOT
to carry bags on the day of their exams.
7. Each candidate must have his/her own pen (blue or black ink only), pencil, rubber, maths
set, ruler, non-programmable calculator etc. No Borrowing or lending will be
allowed. Ensure that all stationery brought into the examination venue does not have
any writing or inscriptions on them.

D. What constitutes an Irregularity/ Infringement

1. Carrying of a cellphone, unauthorized notes, pieces of paper into the examination room.
2. Inscriptions, notes, words, formulae etc. on pencils, pens erasers, calculators, clothes or
parts of the body (hands etc.).
3. Seeking assistance from colleagues during the examinations.
4. Communicating with anyone other than the invigilator during the examination.
5. In possession of copies of original “leaked” examination question paper; buying or selling
or distributing of copies of “leaked” examination question papers or answer booklets
irregularity would be declared and you would render yourself liable to suspension from
current and future examinations for a period up to 36 months.

E. Commencement & Termination of the Examination

1. You can not leave the venue until 10:00 once the paper commences.
2. You may NOT leave in the last thirty minutes until the exam session ends.
