Q WHAT IS FIBRE ?

ANS A thin thread like structure which is use to make fabrics like cloth is called fibre.

TYPES OF FABRICS
1. NATURAL FIBRES
2. SYNTHETIC FIBRES

NATURAL FIBRES
The fibres which are obtained from nature by plants and animals is called natural fibres. EX—Cotton ,Silk ,Wool, Jute.

SYNTHETIC FIBRES
The fibres which are obtained by the chemical treatment from humans is called synthetic fibres.EX—polyster, Nylon
etc.

TYPES OF SYNTHETIC FIBRES

1. RAYON
2. NYLON
3. POLYSTER
4. ACRYLIC

RAYON
Rayon is a man-made fibre which is obtained by the chemical treatment of wood pulp and the rayon is only
synthetic fibre which is made by the chemical treatment of natural raw material.

USES OF RAYON
Rayon is used in textiles company to make sarees , socks, blouse etc.

Rayon is used for making furnishing like bed-sheets etc.

Rayon is used for making carpets.

NYLON
Nylon is a synthetic fibres it is a polymide nylon means NY( New York) LON( London).

USES OF NYLON
1. Nylon is used for making textiles in industry like socks, sarees etc.
2. Nylon is used for making curtains , bags etc.
3. Nylon is used for making climbing ropes, fishing ropes etc.
POLYSTER
Polyster is a synthetic fibres . Polyster is also a thermosetting polymer. Teryline is a popular polyater.

PET
Pet stands for POLYETHENE TEREPHTHLATE. PET is a familiar form of polyster. PET is a replacing material of glass.

ACRYLIC
Acrylic is a synthetic fibres which is replacing material of wool because to its wool like feel.

CHARACTERSTICS OF SYNTHETIC FIBRES

1. Synthetic fibres are very strong.
2. Synthetic fibres are more durable.
3. Synthetic fibres absorbs very little water.
4. Synthetic fibres are wrinkle resistance.
5. Synthetic fibres are quite light weight.
6. Synthetic fibres are extremely fine.
7. Synthetic fibres are not attacked by moths.
8. Synthetic fibre do not shrink.
9. Synthetic fibres are less expensive and readily available.
10. Clothes made from synthetic fibres are easier to maintain.

PLASTICS
A plastic is a synthetic fibres which canbe moulded into desired shape and soft and than hardened to produce a
durable article.

TYPES OF PLASTIC
1. THERMOPLASTIC
2. THERMOSETTING PLASTIC

THERMOPLASTIC
A plastic which can be moulded on heating and can be changed on different shapes again and agaun is called
thermoplastic.

THERMOSETTING
A plastic which cannot be change shapeon moulding and set once is called thermosetting plastic.
