LF5 - Trigonometry Follow-Up

Attempt all questions. You must show detailed reasoning where necessary.

1) In the triangle ABC, AB = 2 2 , BC = 6 2 and angle ABC = 60o.

Work out the following, giving your answer in simplified surd form.

a) The area of triangle ABC. [2]

b) The length of AC. [3]

c) The value of sin BAC. [3]

2) On the same axes sketch the graphs y  cos x and y = - sin 0.5𝑥 for  180 0  x  360 0
[4]

3) a) Show that 3 sin 2   cos 2   cos  tan   1 may be written as 2 sin 2   sin  [3]

b) Hence solve the equation 3 sin 2   cos 2   cos  tan   1  0 giving all values of  such that
0 0    360 0 [4]

4) (a) If 270° < x < 360° and cos x = 3 , calculate the exact value of sin x [2]

(b) Solve tan (𝑥 + 75°) = 3 for 0° < 𝑥 < 360° to the nearest degree [4]

𝑥
(c) Solve 4cos2 (2) – 3 = 0 for 0° < 𝑥 < 360° to the nearest degree [5]
