Thank you Grace. You’re welcome Ma’am.

B. UNFREEZING ACTIVITY (Motivation)

Okay, let’s have a simple recap of

what we have discussed yesterday with a little
bit of twist…
Yesterday, I assigned three students to
prepare their ‘Knock, Knock’, ‘Pick Up Line’
and ‘Hugot’ regarding the topic yesterday.
So, you are going to do any of the
three, using the words related to our topic…
then of course you are going to explain the
words that you used… example if you use the
word cables, Cross Over, RJ45 and so on.
Have you prepared? Yes Ma’am!!!

Okay! So Let’s do the ‘Knock, Pick up,

and Hugot
1. Knock, Knock - Niño (Cross-Over)

Bravo!!! You have a very good voice

Niño.
Now, Tell us about CROSS OVER?

Very Good! So that, you can network / Cross-over, An Ethernet cable used to connect

2. Pick-up Line – Homer and Grezelle

Nice one!
In contrast to Cross over cable, STRAIGHT THROUGH
What about STRAIGHT THROUGH?
cables are being used to connect devices of different
types, such as to connect computer to network switch
or Ethernet hub to create a network.

Very well said!

3. Hugot – Aldrin and Alvin (Crimping Tool)

What a very excellent and informative Crimping tool is being used to join the UTP cable and

I hope that with that ice breaking

recap of our topic yesterday, you now have the
excitement and the eagerness to learn about
our new topic for today.

C. ACTIVITY

Now let’s move on with our activity for

this morning which is a continuation of
installing network cables.
I will let you watch a video on how to
punch down on a networking PATCH PANEL.
D. ANALYSIS
With that, you are going to answer these
questions:
a. What is a Patch panel?
b. What are the tools and materials
needed in working with the patch
panel?
c. How are you going to punch wire
in the patch panel?
d. Is there a difference between the
color coding in creating the
Ethernet cable with RJ45 jack and
its color coding in patch panel?
e. Is there a difference between
T568A and T568B color coding in
the Patch Panel?
E. ABSTRACTION
1. A PATCH PANEL, patch bay, patch field or jack
field is a device or unit featuring a number of
jacks, usually of the same or similar type, for the
use of connecting and routing circuits for
monitoring, interconnecting, and testing circuits in
a convenient, flexible manner. Patch panels are
commonly used in computer networking,
recording studios, radio and television.
2. Tools needed:
 Wire Stripper/cutter or Electricians Snip
 Punch down Tool
 LAN tester
 Crimping tool
 Tie Wrap
3. Remove the Jacket of the UTP cable using the wire
stripper. Untwist the pairs of colored wire. Then
plot it into the patch panel following the color
coding on the plate. And, with the use of the
punch down tool, push it down to the panel.
Make sure that the cutter side of the punch
down tool is on the portion/end of the wire
that we don’t need.
Reminder: Be careful with the blade, it is
sharp and may cause wound.
To make our cabling tidy and clean use tie
wrap to tie/clip/lace the wires in place.
Dispose excess components and materials
based on our waste management program.

F. APPLICATION

The students will perform the

installation work/cabling in the patch
panel.
They will perform the activity in a
group of ten (10).
Rubrics will be created with students’
participation using the following Criterion:
A: Cleanliness/Orderliness (OHS)
B: Teamwork
C: Time Management
D: Product/Output

IV. ASSESSMENT
Written Test
1. What is the device that is being used for connecting and routing circuits for monitoring,
interconnecting, and testing circuits in a convenient, flexible manner and is commonly used in
computer networking?
2-5. Give at least five (5) tools that are being used in cabling.
6-8. In 3 sentences, explain how are you going to create and test a patch panel connection?
9-10. In 2 sentences, explain how are you going to maintain the cleanliness and orderliness or your
workplace.

V. ASSIGNMENT:
1. What is Router?
2. How would you differentiate Router, Access Point and Switch Hub.
3. Create a simple diagram of network connection including Router, Access Point, Switch hub, and
Computer/s, with the patch panel.
