1. In a series, L-C-R circuit connected to an AC source of variable frequency and


voltage V = Vm sinωt , draw a plot showing the variation of the current I with angular
frequency two, for two different value of resistance R1 and R2 (R1 > R2). Write the
condition under which the phenomenon of resonance is produced? Define Quality
factor of the circuit and give its significance.
2. A device X is connected to an AC source, V = V0 sinωt. The variation of voltage,
current and power in one cycle is shown in the following graph.

(i) Identify the device X


(ii) Which of the curve A, B and C represent the voltage, current and the power
consumed in the circuit? Justify the answer.
(iii) How does the impedance vary with frequency of the AC source? Show
graphically.
(iv) Obtain the expression for the current in the circuit and its phase relation with AC
voltage.
3. A device X is connected across an AC source of voltage V = V0 sin(ωt). The current

this maximum value.
(ii) What is the source frequency for which average power absorbed by the circuit is
maximum? Obtain the value of maximum power.
(iii) For which frequency of the source is the power transferred to the circuit half the
power at resonant? What is the current amplitude at these frequencies?
(iv) What is the Quality factor of the given circuit?
5. A resistor of 400 Ω, an inductor of 5/π H and a capacitor of 50/π µ𝐹 are connected in
series across a source of alternating voltage of 140 sin(100πt) volt. Find the voltage
(rms) across the resistor, the inductor and the capacitor. Is the algebraic sum of these
voltages more than the source voltage? If yes, resolve the paradox.
