Questions:

1. Why do you want to undertake graduate work?

2. Why do you qualify to pursue a graduate degree at Virginia Tech?
3. What do you expect to derive from your program of study?
4. If you have a concentration or area of interest in mind, briefly outline your interests in this
area.
5. What do you expect to contribute as a student and subsequently as a member of the
profession?
6. If you have not previously indicated in your application the names of faculty members you are
interested in working with, please include that information in this statement.

During my childhood years, I developed a profound obsession and fascination with areas requiring an
analytical approach. Right from my early days at school, mathematics has intrigued me. Challenging
tasks were my favorites and resolving them would leave me in utter delight. I was relentlessly
challenged academically. I was besotted by the enigmas of mathematics and physics, which concretized
my childhood dream of taking up computer science one day. My desire for a technical job motivated me
to enroll in one of the most prestigious Computer Science undergraduate programs at American
International University Bangladesh (AIUB), one of the finest universities in Bangladesh. My systematic
and methodical approach to finding a solution to any problem best suits this field.

Few areas of my undergraduate education have stimulated me to think as much as the courses in
Artificial Intelligence (AI), Theory of Computation (TOC), and Computer Programming have. When I
watch movies showcasing contemporary artificially intelligent technology or even when I check social
media every day to discover new functionalities, I wonder. I am always interested in developments that
progress technically and offer limitless creative and logical possibilities. I have a similar sense of elation
whenever I can tackle a difficult challenge. This enthusiasm motivates me to persist in even the most
challenging situations. This fascination for programming and my ambition to gain insight into the
internal workings of numerous applications and technologies propel me to apply for a Master of
Computer Science degree.

Within the first two years of my undergraduate education, I took classes such as Object-Oriented
Programming. In addition, I completed classes in Theory of Computation (TOC), Database Management,
Data Structures, and Algorithms, which helped me build a firm foundation in computer science
concepts. The laboratory classes perfectly complemented these introductory lectures. Because the
laboratory course assignments were so hard, I was able to get the technical and programming skills I
needed. I took advanced classes such as Artificial Intelligence Expert Systems, Compiler Design,
Databases, Computer Graphics, Operating Systems, and Computer Networks over the final two years of
my education.
I also involved myself in several elective subjects such as Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Advanced
Database Management Systems, and Software Quality and Testing, including a project entitled
"Automobile Management System", developed using Visual Studio and SQL Server. I developed a simple
shooting game using OpenGL for the computer graphics project. As part of my proactive attitude toward
education, I have also completed a course on Java programming foundations.

My final year thesis is entitled "Automatic text summarization for email using semantic analysis". It is
research based on using semantic analysis, an aspect of Natural Language Processing (NLP), as a medium
to build summaries from extensive articles in the form of generic extracts. My university alumni held a
lecture on this topic, which I attended after realizing the significance of Cloud Computing and Big Data
Analytics and the vast potential for study in this area.

I matched my academic efforts with participation in extracurricular activities while being an

academically focused student. I volunteered at "AIUB CS Fest", a project exhibition and competition at
my university that focuses on providing a platform for interaction between industry experts and final-
year students by showcasing the latter's talents in the form of their final-year projects. This experience
assisted in honing my social skills, which also ensured my personality development. Not all of my entire
undergrad years were devoid of shortcomings. I acquired the ability to absorb both criticism and
compliments with a positive mindset. This was a rewarding experience for me, and it will be beneficial to
me in the future.

After achieving a good foundation in computer science through a tough undergraduate program and my
internship as a teaching assistant, it is now the appropriate time for me to pursue graduate study. I want
to expand my understanding of the intricacies of computer science and use this information to enhance
my prospects of securing a successful career in technology. With such a deep interest in working with
the most cutting-edge artificially intelligent technologies, I intend to take advantage of the abundance of
opportunities in the social media industry that permit the integration of these technologies with one's
creative impulses.

In the future, I want to contribute to the vast, unexplored field of computer science by pursuing my
lifelong dream of completing a PhD. The Master's degree program in computer science provided by
Virginia Tech University will surely equip me with the necessary information, abilities, and experience to
pursue my ambitions and maximize my possibilities. The practical emphasis of your in-depth curriculum
will enable me to obtain a thorough comprehension of the subject and the skills necessary to implement
it. My exposure to such efforts would enhance my knowledge and add immeasurable value to my ability
to achieve professional objectives.
To conclude, I emphasize that the relationship between the student and his department is fundamental
to higher education. Graduate studies at your university will be the most logical continuation of my
academic interests and a significant step toward my goals. I would be grateful if you allowed me to
attend graduate school at your institution with financial assistance to demonstrate your confidence in
me.
