COURSE OUTLINE
Reaction Engineering is concerned with the exploitation of reactions on a commercial scale. Its goal
is to familiarize with different designs of reactors. It also emphasizes qualitative arguments, simple
reactor sizing methods, graphical procedures, and frequent comparison of capabilities of the major
reactor types. Simple ideas are treated first and then extended to more complex problems.
1. Ability to ANALYZE knowledge of chemical reaction to solve problems regarding the rate law
and rate law parameters. (PO1)
2. Ability to DESIGN solutions for chemical reactors conversion & sizing and to explain steady-state
isothermal reactor. (PO3)
3. Ability to EVALUATE the difference of catalysis & catalytic reactions and to solve Residence
Time Distribution (RTD) functions in non-ideal reactors. (PO2)
Final Examination = 60 %
Test = 10 %
Assignments = 10%
Quizzes = 5%
Integrated project = 15%
