In survey of buying habits, 400 women shoppers are chosen at random in super market A located in
certain section of the city. Their average weekly food expenditure is Rs.250 with a standard deviation
of Rs.40. For 400women shoppers chosen at random in super market B in another section of city, the
average weekly food expenditure is Rs.220with a standard deviation of Rs .55 . Test at 1% level of
significance whether the average weekly food expenditure of the two populations of shoppers are
equal.
Three machines produce 70% , 20% and 10% of the total number of items in a factory . The percentage
of defective output of these machines are 4%,3% and 2% respectively. An item is selected at random
and found defective. Find the probability that it is from (i) machine –I (ii) machine –II (iii) machine
–III.
In a Normal distribution, 31% of the items are under 45 and 8% are over 64. Determine the
mean and variance of the distribution.

conformed to specifications. An examination of sample of 200 piece of equipment revealed
that 18 were faulty. Test his claim that 5% level of significance.
