Yes, Miss Richelle? Last meeting, we tackled the

Ma’am.

Very good! How many literary devices we Eight, ma’am

have discussed?

What are those? Can you give one and

define it?

Yes, Kevin? Give one Simile, ma’am. It refers to

the practice of drawing
comparisons between two
unrelated and dissimilar
things.

Correct, what else Mr. Golib? Personification, Ma’am. It is

used when you make a thing
do something only humans
do.

That’s correct. Another? (The students will give

literary devices are recalled)

Very good, class. Since you were able to

recall our topic last time, I can say that
you are now ready to acquire new
knowledge for today.

Before we move on to our lesson, let us

first have a game to energize everyone.
Do you want that class?

This game is called “Search My Piece

and Complete Me”.

But before anything else, let us first group

the class into three(3). To make it fair,
please look under your armchairs. You (The students will look for

The color of the sticky notes will

determine your group. The yellow color
will be the group 1. The blue color will be

the group 2, and lastly, the green color
will be the group 3.

Have you already seen which color or

group you belong to?

If yes, then please proceed to your

groupmates. Group 1 will stay on the right
side, group 2 will stay on the center, while
the group 3 will be on the left side. Be
with your groupmates and go to your
assigned places without making any
unnecessary noises.

Settle down and listen carefully, class. As

the title of the game suggests, you need to
search the pieces and complete the puzzle
but let us make it a little bit challenging
for everyone. As you can see, I have
prepared here a word search puzzle. What
are you going to do is to come in front to
find and highlight all the six (6) words
written under the puzzle. The words can
be placed diagonally, horizontally,
vertically, or backward. Since there are 4-
5 members in each group, think of a
strategy to involve all the members and
make your work faster.

Every word you will find is equivalent to

a piece of puzzle that you can get from
these envelopes. Basically, you need to
look for the six(6) words in order to have
the six (6) pieces of the puzzle that will
enable you to complete it.
Republic of the Philippines

Cordillera Administrative Region
SCHOOLS DIVISION OFFICE OF ABRA
For example, if you're done looking for
the word number one(1), get one(1) piece
from the first envelope Same through if
you're done with the word number 2.

On the count of three, each group will go

to their assigned places in front and do the
task given. Once you are done, say
DONE. Understood?
Yes, Ma'am
The first group that can find the hidden
words and complete the puzzle of a
picture will be given a prize after the
class.

Okay, let’s begin. On the count of three. If

you hear the go signal, you may begin. (Students will go to their

Very good, class!

Before we read the story, please bring out

a half sheet of paper and make your
predictions on what you think will happen
in the story based on the title. After
reading it, state your realizations as well (Students will do the task)
as state whether your predictions were
right or not. Something close or not.

Are you done writing your predictions? Yes, Ma’am

Okay now, let us read the story. Kindly

distribute these copies of the story and
read them silently.

Additionally, since we have already

tackled the different literary devices and
we have recalled them a while ago while
reading the piece I want you to highlight
the passages that use a literary device.
Highlight as many as you will come
across. Understood? (Yes, Ma’am)

which is certain to fall,
Ma'am

predictions?
(Students will give their

Very good, class. Kindly pass your papers

in front.

E. Discussing new Aside from making predictions, I also

concepts and practicing asked you a while ago to highlight the
new skills #2 passages in the story that use literary
devices, am I right? Yes, Ma’am

Now, let us have some sharing but with a

twist. So as you can see I have here a dice
of literary devices. What you need to do is
to give a number and whoever has the
dice after the counting, will need to roll
the dice once only. Whatever literary
device comes out, you have to come in
front and write a passage under it as well
to explain. Understood? Yes, Ma’am

Okay, let’s start.

Republic of the Philippines

Miss Ella, give a number from 1 - 15. 7, ma’am

(The students will count)

Okay, we have Mr. Kevin. Please roll the

dice. What literary device did you get? Personification, Ma’am

right column. After writing explain.

Very good, Mr. Kevin. Please give me a

number.

any educational applications such as Padlet
or Canva to make your organizers more
creative. To ensure that you're the one who
made it, screen record the whole process of
creating it.

Additionally, answer this question in an

essay form. “ If you were the author, how
would you end the story? Why?” Answer
briefly.

Do you have any questions or

clarification? None, ma'am

If none, you may now begin doing the task.

I will give you ten(10) minutes to do it.
Once you're done, pass it in our Google (The students will do the
class. task)

G. Finding practical Based on the story we have read as well as

applications of concepts based on your realizations and reflections
and skills in daily living on the moral values presented in the story,
why do you think it is important for us to
have always hope and to value other
people? To treasure, to give importance,
appreciate them? By making them feel valued
and worthy, we could help
them to keep living. To help
them realize their worth,
ma’am. Just like what Sue
did to her friend, Jonhsy.

Very good. It is correct. We must always

remember that a simple act of kindness and
gratitude of having someone could make a
big difference or great impact in a life of
other people. It could change their
perspectives and how they view life. What
else? To show how grateful we are
to have them in our lives.
Because at times that we
can't give value to ourselves
anymore, they serve as our

strength and a reminder to
fight, ma’am

Very good. There are a lot of things we

could do to make someone feel valued and
appreciated making them realize that they
play an important role in our lives.
Another? Because we don't have any
idea how much sacrifices
they could make for us in
times of need.
Very good! Honestly, that's true. We are
indeed clueless about who would help us
and how much they are willing to give us.
Thus, we should value everyone around us
not because we need to but because we
genuinely want to do it.

Every one of us has our battles we are

fighting alone. What do you think is the
importance of having hope?

Having hope makes us

always see the brighter side
of things. Moreover, it
strengthens us in dealing
with the different challenges
of life enabling us to fight
for our lives and fight for
those who believe that we
can and are capable of
overcoming them.
Precisely! Hope can be found in the form
of someone and of course, it ignites within
us. With all of those realization and
reflections, for you what is the significance
of reading a story?

Reading stories like The

Last Leaf could impart a lot
of life lessons that we could
use to improve our
perspectives and values in
life enabling us to

lesson.
Blue is for something you have learned
today. Green, on the other hand, is for
realizations. And pink is for questions.

Each of you will be given 3 sticky notes.

In writing, you will be following a 3-2-1
format. So, what is the 3-2-1?

This means that you need to write 3 things

you have learned from the story or the
three main characters, 2 statements that
state your realization and how you will
make a commitment with this realization
or how you will make use of it in real life,
and 1 question or clarification regarding
the topic.

Before we end the class, each of you will

share what you have written.

As for those who have questions, anyone

who knows the answer can volunteer to
answer the questions of your classmates.

Is the instruction clear, class?

Yes, Ma'am
Okay, you may start now.

Evaluating learning To evaluate your learning, let's have an

activity. This will be divided into two
parts. The first part will be a Crossword
puzzle and the second part will be an essay.

for application or next meeting, since the story’s main theme
remediation is about hope and of course valuing other
people, I want you to write a letter for
someone, a motivational one and a thank
you letter. This might sound cringe to
others, but please be serious about writing
this. You can make yourselves anonymous
if you want. Be creative and genuine in
making your letter.

I will be preparing a box where you can put

those letters. I will be signing these letters
before distributing them to the intended
recipients. Don't worry, I won't read them.

I will give everyone five(5) minutes to read

the letter and construct a response. You
will be putting it back in the box and after
class tomorrow, you may come and get the
letter. Don't get it if you know that it is not
yours.

Do you have any questions about the

instruction or the lesson? None, Ma'am

If none, the class is dismissed. Goodbye
