Dear Aunt Maryann,

1 Hello! How are you? Are you having a blast this summer so far? Well. I
certainly am! I’m spending tons of time outside playing in the backyard. My
brothers, Matt and Mike, and I have built amazing forts in the backyard. We
are so proud of our dexterity.

Do you remember my best friend, Nicole? She lives just around the block
from us. 5 The other day, she and I had a picnic at her house. I brought along
peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, carrot sticks and our homemade dill
pickles. Eating homemade pickles reminded me of you. Remember when you
came to our house last summer for a visit, and we went into the garden to pick
ripe, ready vegetables? You and I picked buckets and 10 buckets of those
delicious crisp, crunchy cucumbers. Meanwhile, Matt and Mike harvested
tomatoes and okras.

At home, we selected the best cucumbers-- you taught us how to make dill
pickles. Cleaning and soaking the cucumbers was forever fun! While you were
slicing up the cucumbers and preparing the canning supplies, we liked chit-
chatting with you. I 15 thought the dill spice smelled absolutely

delicious. Matt, on the other hand, adored the waft of the garlic, yet Mike
detested the acrid vinegar. I remember you gave each of us a job to do. For
starters, I put in the garlic, Matt added the dill spice and Mike put enough
cucumbers in to fill up each jar. The jars looked mouth-watering when we were
finished; moreover, the end product pickles were as green as
grass.

20 Our dill pickles are the best I have ever tasted.

Unfortunately, I used the very last jar for the picnic. When Nicole
tasted them, she could not believe the difference between ours
and the kind sold in stores. As a result, Nicole said that we should make more
and enter them in the country fair contest. I think she’s right, Aunt Maryann.
Will you come and make pickles with us 25 again? Do you think you could
come for a short visit? We all miss you and can’t wait to see you again. Well…
I am running late for my football practice. Write back soon. I cannot wait to
hear from you!
Love,
Sandy
