Amendment A1
to the approved standard NF EN 1713, dated September 1998, approved by
decision of the Director General of AFNOR on November 20, 2002, taking effect on
December 20, 2002.
Correspondence Amendment A1:2002 to the European Standard EN 1713:1998 has the status of
French standard.
Analysis This document adds Annex ZA relating to the EU Directives 97/23/EC and
87/404/EEC and modifies the following clauses and paragraphs: introduction,
3.1, 3.3.1, 3.4, 3.6, 3.7 and Annex A.

This amendment A1 modifies the European Standard EN 1713:1998; it was approved by CEN on 1 May 2002.
CEN members are bound to comply with the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations which stipulate the conditions for inclusion of this
amendment into the relevant national standard without any alteration. Up-to-date lists and bibliographical references concerning such
national standards may be obtained on application to the Management Centre or to any CEN member.
This amendment exists in three official versions (English, French, German). A version in any other language made by translation under the
responsibility of a CEN member into its own language and notified to the Management Centre has the same status as the official versions.

Foreword
This document EN 1713:1998/A1:2002 has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 121 "Welding", the
secretariat of which is held by DS.
This Amendment to the European Standard EN 1713:1998 shall be given the status of a national standard, either
by publication of an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by November 2002, and conflicting national
standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by November 2002.
This document has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission and the European
Free Trade Association, and supports essential requirements of EU Directive(s).
For relationship with EU Directive(s), see informative annex ZA, which is an integral part of this document.
Annex A is normative.
According to the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations, the national standards organizations of the following
countries are bound to implement this European Standard: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland,
France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain,

As agreed by CEN/TC 121/SC 5 resolution 134/2000, the term “examination” shall be replaced by “testing".

Introduction
The last paragraph shall read now:
“Such classification shall only be carried out, in accordance with EN 1712, if defined by specification.”.
In the French version only, the third paragraph, delete "devrait être appliqué".
3.1 General
In the French version only, in the fourth paragraph, replace "courbure" by "courbe".
“This stage of the flowchart procedure shall be applicable either to all indications or, if defined in a specification,
only to those indications exceeding a specified length.”
In the French version only, in 3.4 a), replace "entre les différents sondage effectués" by "des différents angles
d’incidence".
In the French version only, in 3.4 d), replace "du même réflecteur" by "des mêmes réflecteurs".

Annex ZA

This European Standard has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission and the
European Free Trade Association and supports essential requirements of Directive 97/23/EC of the European
Parliament and the Council of 29 May 1997 on the approximation of the laws of the Member States concerning
pressure equipment.
WARNING Other requirements and other EU Directives may be applicable to the product(s) falling within
the scope of this standard.
The following clauses of this standard as detailed in Tables ZA.1 and ZA.2, are likely to support requirements of the
Directives 97/23/EC, and 87/404/EEC.
Compliance with these clauses of this standard provides one with means of conforming to the specific essential
requirements of the Directives concerned and associated EFTA regulations.
