Course Description
This course is desinged to provide the students with an overview of the study of human
psychology, or the study of human behavior and mental processes. It will cover basic knowledge
and major theories of the field. The subject will cover history of psychology, research methods;
biological basis of behaviour, sensation and perceptual processes; variations in consciousness,
learning, human memory, personality theory, psychological disorder, language, and thought.

Course Objectives
The course will have the following objectives:
1. To be able to understand the basic terminology used in psychology;
2. To be able to understand the different theoretical approaches to psychology and be able to
articulate the different assumptions behind them;
3. To apply psychology concepts for problems solving confronting them in society;
4. Use psychological techniques to explain various aspects of human cognition and
behavior; and
5. Demonstrate understanding of the workings of their own consciousness, behavior, and
interpersonal relationships.

Learning Outcomes
On the completion of this course, the student will be able to have developed:
1. Understanding of basic psychological terminology and explain important features of
major psychological concepts and theories;
2. Understanding different theoretical approaches to psychology and to articulate the
different assumptions behind them;
3. The skills of applying their understanding for their problem solving;
4. The skills to critically analyze information about human behavior; and
5. The skills to understand the complexities of human interactions.

Grading Policy
Mid-Term examination 30%
Final-Term Exam 70%
