All questions are compulsory.


The question paper has five sections and 33 questions. All questions are compulsory.
Section-A has 16 questions of 1 mark each; Section-B has 5 questions of 2 marks each;
Section-C has 7 questions of 3 marks each; Section-D has 2 case-based questions of 4
marks each; and Section-E has 3 questions of 5 marks each.
There is no overall choice. However, internal choices have been provided in some
questions.
A student has to attempt only one of the alternatives in such questions.
Wherever necessary, neat and properly labelled diagrams should be drawn.

SECTION – A (16*1m=16m)

20. (a) Briefly explain how a galvanometer is converted into a voltmeter.
(b) A voltmeter of a certain range is constructed by connecting resistance of 980 ohm in
series with a galvanometer. When the resistance of 470 ohm is connected in series, the range
gets halved. Find the resistance of the galvanometer.
21. A glass beaker of height 10 cm, completely filled with water (refractive index
= 4/3), has a curved bottom which is silvered as shown below. A plastic coin remains
submerged in water at a depth of 5 cm from the top of the beaker. An observer sees the coin
in the water and its image in the mirror.
If the image formed by the curved mirror is seen by the observer at a distance
of 15 cm from the surface of the water, what is the focal length of the curved
surface? (Assume the silvered curved surface acts as a spherical mirror.)

25. An inductor of inductance 'L' is connected to an AC source, V = 100 sin ωt.
The graph below represents the variation of inductive reactance (XL) of the inductor with the
frequency of an alternating source

(a) What is the self-inductance of the inductor?


(b) If the ac source is replaced by a battery such that V = 100 V, then what is
the inductive reactance of the inductor? Give reason.
(c) When the frequency is 50 Hz, what is the average power dissipated by the
inductor over a complete cycle in the circuit? Justify your answer.

29. An electron with speed vo << c moves in a circle of radius ro in a uniform magnetic field.
This electron is able to traverse a circular path as the magnetic force acting on the electron is

perpendicular to both vo and B, as shown in the figure. This force continuously deflects the
particle sideways without changing its speed and the particle will move along a circle

32. (I) Derive the expression for refractive index of a prism in terms of angle if prism and angle
of minimum deviation. Use this formula to calculate the angle of minimum deviation for an
equilateral triangular prism of a refractive index √3

(II) (a) Derive the lens formula 1/f = 1/v – 1/u for concave lens using necessary ray diagrams.
33. Explain the following –
(a) Why are the field lines repelled when a diamagnetic material is placed in an external
uniform magnetic field?
(b) Draw the magnetic field lines for a current carrying solenoid, when a rod made of – (i)
Copper (ii) Aluminium (iii) Iron are inserted within the solenoid.
