1 INTRODUCTION
The objective of this assessment is to analyze the proposed office cabin .It will describe structural
system used, final design loads considered in the design, durability and overall safety of the structures
and summary of the results of the structural analysis and design. This report shall be read with
relevant concept drawings.
Units used in the calculations are SI metric units:
Force: kN
Length: mm, cm and m

2 DESIGN CODES
The structural design of the proposed development will be done based on the following government
codes and references.

3 MATERIALS
All material used will be in accordance with the relevant section of the material and workmanship
unless noted and agreed otherwise.
3.1 HDPE 340
 Modulus of elasticity, E = 1.5 x 103MPa
 Material density, γ = 3.32 kN/m3
3.2 Cable
 Wire rope made up of Stainless Steel
 Material type: AISI316
 Modulus of elasticity, E = 205x103MPa
 Density = 77.91 kN/m3

Structural parts and members of this building conform to the material specifications and grades shown
in the following table.

3.3 Soil
 Density of soil, ρsoil = 18kN/m3
 Allowable bearing pressure, Pbearing = 200 kN/m2

4 SOFTWARE APPLICATIONS
Structural Engineering Software available for the use in the structural design of the proposed
development is:

5 DESIGN DATA
5.1 GEOMETRY
Shade length = 18.65m
Shade breadth = 13.5m

5.2 LOADS
5.2.1 Permanent loads
 Self-weight of structure = Unit weight for shade shall be 3.32 kN/m3 and Unit weight for
cable shall be 77.91 kN/m3.
5.2.2 Prestress load
 Load induced in the structure for defining the geometry and the intial state of the stress.

5.2.3 WIND LOAD (ASCE 7-05)

Wind loads shall be according to QCS 2014 and ASCE 7-05, as follows:
• Wind speed = 85 mph (38 m/sec) - 3sec gust (QCS 2014)
• Occupancy Category = IV (ASCE 7-05, Table 1-1)
• Exposure type = C (ASCE 7-05, clause 6.5.6)
• Importance factor = 1.0 (ASCE 7-05, clause 6.5.5, Table 6-1)

6|Page
• Topographic factor = 1.0 (ASCE 7-05, clause 6.5.7)
• Gust factor = 0.85 (ASCE 7-05, clause 6.5.8)
• Directionality factor = 0.85 (ASCE 7-05, clause 6.5.4.4, Table 6-4)

The applied wind load is auto generated by Etabs model.

6 LOAD COMBINATIONS
All structural steel/RCC work will be design to ensure the stability and durability from the action of
design ultimate loads. The structure will be assessed in this state based on the following load
combinations.
 D.L : Dead load.
 WL : Wind load.
