Question 1: Essay (30 Marks)

INSTRUCTION: Prepare an essay addressing the following questions. Support your arguments/ideas with relevant examples and a review of related
literature from reputable sources.

(1) Analyse the impact of unconditional positive regard and how it helps in creating a non-judgmental and supportive environment for clients.

(2) Describe some common challenges and ethical considerations associated with the termination stage.

Question 2: Essay (20 Marks)

INSTRUCTION: Prepare an essay addressing the following case study. Support your arguments/ideas with relevant examples and a review of related
literature from reputable sources.

Mark has been experiencing feelings of depression and anxiety, which have been affecting his work performance and personal relationships. He was
referred to counselling by his employer after showing signs of burnout and decreased productivity.

During the initial sessions, Mark is reluctant to open up about his feelings and experiences. He often responds with short, non-committal answers and
appears disengaged. Mark frequently checks his phone during sessions and misses appointments without prior notice. Despite these behaviours, he
continues to attend sessions sporadically, indicating some level of interest in counselling.

The counsellor, Jane, has tried various approaches to engage Mark, including building rapport, using open-ended questions, and exploring his interests.
However, Mark remains uncooperative, making it challenging to progress in therapy.

Discuss some specific strategies and techniques counsellors can use to engage uncooperative clients. Include examples in your discussion.

Mark sedang mengalami perasaan kemurungan dan kebimbangan yang telah menjejaskan prestasi kerja dan hubungan peribadinya. Dia dirujuk ke
kaunseling oleh majikannya selepas menunjukkan tanda-tanda ‘burnout’ dan penurunan produktiviti.

Semasa di sesi awal, Mark enggan berkongsi perasaan dan pengalamannya. Dia sering menjawab dengan jawapan yang pendek dan tidak komited serta
kelihatan tidak memberi tumpuan semasa sesi. Mark kerap melihat telefonnya semasa sesi dan terlepas temu janji tanpa memberi notis terlebih dahulu.
