share, and or exchange information and ideas in virtual communities and networks.Social

Media has made an insepirable in road in our lives. We depends on social media for comm

onications and news update.According to the outcome, students academic performance

is affected the more they use Facebook. Social platforms are mainly used by students for

socializing activities rather than academic purposes (Oye, 2012). In addition, Oye (2012)

said that the majority of students feel that social platforms have a positive impact on

academic growth. In different research conducted by Shana (2012), it was ascertained

that students use platforms mainly for chatting and making friends. Today’s young

generation, especially teens and youth, is using technology in innovative ways, due to

which they are referred to as "millennials," and has changed the way they think, work, and

communicate, even though these are the most informative years of their lives. Today’s

youth, because of social platforms, have become technology addicts and are quite

withdrawn.

Students can be easily influenced by social media, due to their curiosity, they want to

explore or try what is new and trending to be able to fit. They are able to easily adapt ever

to anything that they see around them. With the benefits of social media,it plays a big part

in students in everyday lives. In using this it allows people to be updated.Social media has

a positive and negative effects on students academic performance, and also it depends

on the relative degree of exposure and the kind of media he/she induldge in and the guid-

ance and supervision of the elders like parents or guardians.

The world change rapidly with the development of technology, this has led to use

technology as the best way to explore the vast area of knowledge. The journal of cases on
information technology has published study based on an objectives analysis of the use of

social media by students and the study have a positive and negative effects on students

academic performance behavior. The most findings of the study are that there is a positive

and negative impact on the social networking sites on the academic performance and

the bahavior of the students. The study is attracted to social networking site for many

reasons.Students now utilize social media at a high rate, which has a negative impact on

their academic performance due to the time commitment, poor language, and incorrect

spelling they display when interacting with others (Ndaku, 2013). The majority of students'

study time is spent on social networks rather than in their academic work, which has

impacted their grade point average Standard (GPA).In Malaysia, a study on the effects of

social media looked at students' use of social media.Few research have been conducted

on academic performance in tertiary institutions (Khan, 2009), so On this topic, and the

researcher's respondents were from as far in the tertiary institution as Students studying

information technology (Helou & Rahim, 2014).

In the Philippine, academic performance is highly valued and students may feel

intense pressure to perform well. This can sometimes lead to a focus o grades and acade

mic achievement over other aspects of personal development, such as social relationship .

Social media use can sometimes exacerbate this focus on grades,as student may feel the

need to constantly check their grades or compare themselves to other on social media.

Filipino students may have strong support systems from their family and peers, which can

help mitigate the negative effects of social media on academic performance. However, the

support systems may also contribute to pressure to succeed academically, which can it

turn fuel anxiety and other negative emotions that can be amplified by social media use.

Examining the social media gap many existing studies on the impact of social

media to the academic performance are cross-sectional meaning they measure social
media use and academic performance at a single point in time.Longitudinal studies that

track social media use and academic performance over among time students.Pantic,I.

(2014).Online social networking and mental health.Cyberpsychology,Behavior and social

networking. This study discusses the relationship between social media use and academic

performance, finding that excessive use of social media can have a negative impact on

academic performance. The study suggest that students who spends too much time on

social media may have lower grades, lower levels of academic achievement, and reduced

motivation to study.

Social media use can have both positive and negative impacts on students

academic performance. To mitigate the negative effects, students should adopt

responsible social media habit, such as setting limits on social media use and practicing

good time management.Educators and parents can also play a critical role in promoting

digital literacy and helping students develop healthy social media habits to maximize the

benefits of social media on the academic performance.Overall ,social media can have

both positive and negative impacts on students academic performance. It is essential for

students to be aware of these impacts and to use social media in a responsible and and

productive way to achieve academic success.Additionally parents and educators can help

students develop healthy social media habits and set boundaries to ensure that social me

dia use does not negatively impact academic performance.
