Times Week in Review:

Learn. Lead. Serve. Succeed!
1/23/12 1/26/12

The Class of 2028 has been working on the sounds for ST and SW. Our sight words were some and like. We've been studying nursery rhymes and discussing the rhyming words we hear when we listen to stories, songs, and nursery rhymes. We took our Unit 9 test on capacity in math and began learning about equal sets of things. In science we learned more about plants -- about chlorophyll and photosynthesis; and we even planted our own plant! Next week, we'll work on the sounds for the blends TW and TR, making connections to texts, equal sets and numbers, and plants. Our new sight words will be: him, has, two.

Class of 2028 (Kindergarten)

In literacy, the Class of 2027 has learned how to identify a problem and a solution while reading. This week in math, scholars continued learning about measurement of capacity. As scientists, scholars conducted several experiments on different types of soil. Scholars created hypothesis on which soil would be best for planting. Be sure to ask your scholar the Wive things a plant needs to grow!

Class of 2027 (First Grade)

Scholars in all the colleges have been working on giving feedback to each other by writing their thoughts and next steps on post-its. Learning to critique another scholars work in art helps us to improve so that we can create college quality masterpieces. If you would like to see some examples of college quality masterpieces, stop by the art room and check out the Alma Gallery located on the back wall of the room!

Art

The farmer produces the wheat. The pasta factory makes the pasta. The consumer buys the pasta and eats it at home. This is how one 2026 scholar described the producer-consumer relationship for pasta. This week the class of 2026 has been learning about commerce. Scholars can now identify goods and services that exist the New Bedford community and identify producers, consumers, products, and their relationship between each other. This weekend, ask your scholar to identify goods and services in your neighborhood.

From our School Nurse: Stomach Flu

Text These past couple weeks, a stomach Wlu (gastritis) has been going around. The infection is caused by a virus and leads to diarrhea and vomiting. Here are some suggestions for treating the stomach Wlu: Avoid dehydration by drinking plenty of Wluids. The best choices are water and half-strength juices. Relieve body aches with over-the-counter, non-aspirin pain relievers. Take steps to prevent spread of the virus throw away used tissues and wash hands frequently. Antibiotics will not help as this illness is caused by a virus. Most people feel better after a couple of days. We hope all scholars will be healthy by Monday for a great start to the third quarter!
