Class 10 - Mathematics
Basic Sample Paper - 10 (2024-25)

Solution

Section A
1. (c) 9 a.m.
Explanation:

L.C.M. (30, 60, 90, 105) = 22 × 32 × 5 × 7

= 1260 mins = 21 hours

2. (d) a rational number or an irrational number

Explanation:

The sum of two irrational numbers can be either a rational number or an irrational number.
e.g 5√3 + 3√2 = 5√3 + 3√2 sum is irrational
(2 + 6√7) + ( - 6√7) = 2 sum is rational
Hence sum can be either rational or irrational

3. (b) x2 - 3x - 10 = 0
Explanation:

Sum of the roots = 5 + (-2) = 3, product of roots = 5 × (-2) = -10.

∴ x2 - (sum of roots) x + product of roots = 0.
Hence, x2 - 3x - 10 = 0.

4. (b) intersecting or coincident

Explanation:

If a consistent system has an infinite number of solutions, it is dependent. When you graph; the equations, both equations
represent the same line. So for consistent line it has to be parallel or even they intersect at one point. If a system has no
solution, it is said to be inconsistent. The graphs of the lines do not intersect, so the graphs are parallel and there is no
solution.

5. (c) 1 - c
Explanation:

Given: x2 - p(x + 1) - c = 0
⇒ x2 - px - (p + c) = 0
Here, a = 1, b = -p, c = -(p + c)
∴ (α + 1)(β + 1)

6. (a) 13 units
Explanation:

Let point A be (x1, y1) = (-1, -5) and point B (x2, y2) = (-6, 7)
∴ Distance between A and B
Using Distance Formula
− x 1) 2 + (y 2 − y 1) 2
=
√(x 2

= √( − 6 + 1) 2 + (7 + 5) 2
= √25 + 144
= √169 = 13 units

7. (c) 1.5 m
Explanation:

Let AB and AC be the vertical stick and its shadow, respectively.

According to the question:
AB = 1.8 m
AC = 45 cm = 0.45 m
Again, let DE and DF be the pole and its shadow, respectively.
According to the question:
DE = 6 m
DF = ?
Now, in right-angled triangles ABC and DEF, we have:
∠BAC = ∠EDF = 90°
∠ACB = ∠DFE (Angular elevation of the Sun at the same time)

Therefore, by AA similarity theorem,

we get:△ABC ∼ △DEF
AB DE 1.8 6 6 × 0.45
⇒ = ⇒ = ⇒ DF = = 1.5m
AC DF 0.45 DF 1.8

8. (b) 2.3 cm

9. (b) 140o
Explanation:

OM ⊥ ML (Tangent)
∠ OMN + 70 ∘ = 90 ∘
∠ OMN = 20 ∘
In △OMN
OM = ON
∠ OMN = ∠ ONM = 20 ∘
also
∠ O + ∠OMN + ∠ONM = 180 ∘
∠ O + 20 ∘ + 20 ∘ = 180 ∘
∠ O= ∠ MON = 140 ∘

10. (b) 60o

Explanation:

tan 2θ = 3
tanθ = √3
tanθ = tan60 ∘
θ = 60 ∘

11. (b) 40 m
Explanation:

Let AB be the cliff and CD be the tower. Draw BE ⊥ CD.

Let ∠ ACB = ∠EBD = α and let DE = h metres.
ALso, AB = 20 m, Let AC = BE = x m. Then
x x

Thus, = ⇒ h = 20 m.

It is given that the radius of circle = 8 cm

and angle, θ = 135o

Therefore, area of sector = × πr 2

Explanation:

Here,

⇒ 10x = 50
⇒ x=5
Number of red balls = 2 × 5 = 10
Number of white balls = 3 × 5 = 15
Number of blue balls = 5 × 5 = 25
Now, Number of possible outcomes = 25 + 10 = 35
And Number of total outcomes = 50

Median = Mode + 3 (Mean - Mode)

17. (a) 2πr3

Explanation:

Volume of a sphere = (4/3)πr3

Volume of a cylinder = πr2h
Given, sphere is placed inside a right circular cylinder so as to touch the top, base and lateral surface of the cylinder and
the radius of the sphere is r.
Thus, height of the cylinder = diameter = 2r and base radius = r
Volume of the cylinder = π × r2 × 2r = 2πr3

18. (b) 12
Explanation:

Given,
mode - median = 24
median - mean = ?
we know that,
mode = 3 median - 2 mean
mode = median + 2 median - 2 mean
mode - median = 2 median - 2 mean
24 = 2 (median - mean)
24
median - mean = 2
= 12

19. (c) A is true but R is false.

Explanation:

Since A and B lie on the circle having centre O.

Therefore, OA = OB

√(4 − 2) 2 + (3 − 3) 2 = √ ((x − 2) 2 + (5 − 3) 2
2 = √(x − 2) 2 + 4

(x - 2)2 + 4 = 4
(x - 2)2 = 0

26. Numbers are of two types - prime and composite.

Prime numbers can be divided by 1 and only itself, whereas composite numbers have factors other than 1 and itself.
It can be observed that
7 × 11 × 13 + 13 = 13 × (7 × 11 + 1)
= 13 × (77 + 1)= 13 × 78= 13 ×13 × 6
The given expression has 6 and 13 as its factors.
Therefore, it is a composite number.
7×6×5×4×3×2×1+5
= 5 ×(7 × 6 × 4 × 3 × 2 × 1 + 1)

1009 cannot be factorized further
Therefore, the given expression has 5 and 1009 as its factors.
Hence, it is a composite number.

27. The given polynomial p(x) = x2 + 2√2 x - 6

= x2 + 3√2 x - √2 x - 6
= x(x + 3√2) − √2(x + 3√2)

p(x) = 0 if x+3√2 = 0 or x = √2
Zeroes of the polynomials are √2 and -3√2

For p(x) = x2 + 2√2 x - 6

Plot the points A(0, 2), B(6, 0), P(0, – 4) and Q(3, – 2) on graph paper, and join the points to form the lines AB and PQ

We observe that there is a point B (6, 0) common to both the lines AB and PQ. So, the solution of the pair of linear
equations is x = 6 and y = 0, i.e., the given pair of equations is consistent.

In ADB and ADC

AB = AC [Given]
AD = AD
ADB = ADC[Each 90 o]
