This section comprises Long Answer type questions of 5 marks each. (4 × 5 = 20 Marks)
32. Check whether the linear equation 𝑥 + 𝑦 = 5 𝑎𝑛𝑑 2𝑥 + 2𝑦 = 10 is consistent or inconsistent. If
consistent, obtain the solution graphically.

33. Prove that : i) ( sin A + cosec A)2 + ( cos A + sec A )2 = 7 + tan2 A + cot2 A
ii) sec A ( 1 – sin A) ( sec A + tan A ) = 1

34. a) A pencil is in the form of a cone mounted on a cylinder with the same radius. The total length of the
pencil is 15 cm of which 1.5 cm is the conical portion. The diameter of the pencil is 0.7 cm. Find the
total surface area of the pencil.

34. b) A gulab jamun contains sugar syrup up to about 30 % of its volume. Determine approximately how
much syrup would be found in 45 gulab jamuns, each shaped like a cylinder with two hemispherical
ends with length 5 cm and diameter 2.8 cm.

36. Veer wants to participate in a 200 m race. He can currently run that distance in 51 seconds and with each
day of practice it takes him 2 seconds less. He wants to do it in 31 seconds.
Answer the following questions based on the above information ( 1 + 1 + 2 = 4 Marks)
i) Write A.P. for the above situation.
ii) What is the minimum number of days he needs to practice till his goal is achieved ?
iii) a) If nth term of an AP is given by an = 2n + 3, then determine the common difference of an AP
OR
iii) b) Determine the total time Veer has invested in practice.

37. Ravi went to a beach with his father.
Suppose he is standing at point A. From
point A, when he looks at the top of ship,
he finds that both the top of ship and light
house is in a straight line

Answer the following questions based on the above information ( 1 + 1 + 2 = 4 Marks)


i) Which similarity criteria can be seen in this case, if ship and lighthouse are considered as straight lines ?
ii) The distance between Ravi and ship is twice as much as the height of the ship, then what is the height
of the ship ?
iii) a) If the distance of Ravi from the lighthouse is fifteen times the height of the ship, then determine
the ratio of the heights of ship and lighthouse.

iii) What is the ratio of the distance between Ravi and top of ship to the distance between the tops of ship
and lighthouse ?

38. A group of class X visited India Gate on an


education trip. The teacher narrated that it is
dedicated to the troops of British India who
died in wars fought between 1914 and 1919.
The teacher also said that it is about
138 feet (42 metres) in height.
Answer the following questions based on the above information ( 1 + 1 + 2 = 4 Marks)
i) What is the angle of elevation if they are standing at a distance of 42 m away from the monument ?

ii) They want to see the tower (monument) at an angle of 60° . So they want to know the distance where

they should stand and hence find the distance.

iii) a) Determine the length of the shadow cast by the monument if the altitude of the sun is at 30°

OR

iii) b) The ratio of the length of a building and its shadow is 24 : 8√3. Find the angle of elevation of the

Sun.
