Introduction
• ERP systems serve the core function of
integrating separate business functions into a
single application.
• However it has some limitations due to which
some technologies are used in conjunction
with ERP to overcome these limitations.
Enabling technologies and their
relationships with ERP
Business Process Reengineering(BPR)
• Basically, a business process is the way we
perform our work and business process
reengineering is the process of changing the
way we do our work so we do it better to
accomplish the goals of our business.
Business Process Reengineering(BPR)
• The fundamental rethinking and radical
redesign of business processes to achieve
dramatic improvements in critical,
contemporary measures of performance such
as-
• Cost
• Quality
• Service
• Speed
Business Process Reengineering(BPR)
• An organization's management might use BPR as
a means of looking at the current operations of a
business to determine how to best proceed when
designing or choosing a new ERP.
• The goal of business process re-engineering is to
determine what changes can be made in the way
the business operates to improve aspects of a
business. Often, BPR will focus on a specific part
of the business, like costs, customer service or
marketing and advertising.
Business Process Reengineering(BPR)
• ERP and BPR can be used together to improve an
existing ERP platform, a business executive can
benefit from using an existing ERP to enhance the
effectiveness of BPR.
• BPR can also be used to help establish the most
effective way of implementing ERP for an existing
workforce.
Business Process Reengineering(BPR)
• ERP and BPR can also be used together to
facilitate change management. Once BPR is
completed and the course of change has been
determined, ERP can be used to facilitate
communication and information exchange for
staff members affected by the readjustment
process.
• BPR can also be used to help establish the most
effective way of implementing ERP for an existing
workforce.
Data Warehousing
• Data warehouses generalize and consolidate
data in multidimensional space.
• It provides architectures and tools for business
executives to systematically organize,
understand and use their data to make
strategic decisions.
• The construction of data warehouses involves
data cleaning, data integration and data
transformation.
Data Warehousing
Data Warehousing
• Once operational use of data is over it should
be removed from the operational database.

Operational data Vs. archive data Data Volume Vs. Performance

Data Warehousing
• The primary concept of data warehousing is
that the data stored for business analysis can
be most effectively accessed by separating it
from the data in the operational systems.
• In addition to producing standard reports,
today’s data warehousing systems support
very sophisticated on-line analysis including
multidimensional analysis.
Data Mining
• Data mining is the process of identifying valid,
novel, potentially useful, and ultimately
comprehensible knowledge from database
that is used to make crucial business
decisions.
On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP)
• According to business intelligence OLAP can
be defined in five words- fast analysis of
shared multi-dimensional information.
FAST
ANALYSIS
SHARED
MULTI-DIMENSIONAL
INFORMATION
Supply Chain Management(SCM)
• A supply chain is a network of facilities and
distribution options that performs the
function of procurement of materials,
transformation of these materials into
intermediate and finished products, and the
distribution of these finished products to
customers.
Customer Relationship
Management(CRM)
• CRM covers the method and technology used
by companies to manage their relationships
with clients.
• CRM applications often track customer
interests and requirements, as well as their
buying habits.
• This information can be used to target
customer selectively.
Electronic Data Interchange(EDI)
• Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is the
electronic interchange of business information
using a standardized format; a process which
allows one company to send information to
another company electronically rather than
with paper. Business entities conducting
business electronically are called trading
partners.
