PART A - (10 x 2 = 20 marks)
1. Distinguish between single and double stub matching .
2. Write the importance of quarter 0wave line?
3. Find the impedance of quarter wave transformer which is used to mach 50Ω transmission
line with 75Ω load.
4. List the applications of smith chart
5. Mention the two applications of quarter wave transmission line.
6. Define wave impedance.
7. List out the characteristics of TE waves.
8. Why rectangular waveguides are preferred over circular waveguide?
9. Define cut-off frequency and cut-off wave length of modes of propagation in rectangular
waveguide.
10. Mention the applications of waveguides.

PART B - (2 x 10 = 20 marks)
11.a) Describe the impedance matching technique using single stub and obtain the expression
for the stub location and stub length. (10)

b) Discuss the double stub matching of a transmission line. (10)

12.a) Compute the field configuration, cut-off frequency and velocity of propagation for TM
waves in rectangular wave guides. (10)

Or
b) Discuss the propagation of TE waves between parallel planes and derive the expression
for electric and magnetic fields. (10)
PART C - (1 x 10 = 10 mark)
13. a) A 75Ω lossless transmission line is to be matched with a (100 - j80)Ω load using single
stub. Calculate the stub length and its distance from the load corresponding to the
frequency of 30 MHz using smith chart. (10)

b) A pair of perfectly conducting planes are separated by 8 cm in air.Forfrequency of
5000 MHz with the TM1 mode excited find the following
(i) Cut-off frequency (ii) Characteristic impedance
(iii) Attenuation constant for f=0.95 fc (iv) Phase shift
(v) Phase velocity (10)
