is your resume. In this lesson, you will learn what a resume is, its parts, and how to do one.
A.2 Activity
Before we start this lesson, let’s answer this short inquiry. Most of you may have taken your course as your
personal choice, some may have been encouraged by others to take it. Despite that, you may have already
thought of where you will work after you graduate or finish your degree.
If given a chance to work in a company of your choice, where will you work and why? Write at least three answers.

Resume
A resume is a document that tells others about you, like your boss or a company you want to work for. Its
purpose is to show them why you're a good fit for a job. It is a short paper that talks about your skills, school,
and jobs you've had. It's like an advertisement for you, like when a company advertises its sneakers. Just
like they spend a lot of time making their ads look good, you should spend time making your resume look
good too. Your resume is important because it helps you get good jobs. So, put in the effort to make it great.
Not all resumes look the same, but they should all have some basic stuff. Here's what you need:
• Heading - Your name, address, phone number, and email. Your name should be big and easy to
see.
• Objective - Say what kind of job you want in one sentence. If you're applying for different jobs,
change this part for each one.
Example: To contribute to nation-building as an English teacher
• Education - If you're in college, just put that. High school students don't need to mention middle
school. Include when you went to school and what you're studying.
• Experience - List your past jobs, where they were, when you worked there, and what you did. Use
action words and don't say "I."
• Activities - Put down any school or community stuff you've been involved in, like clubs or teams.
• Skills - If you have any special skills that relate to the job, like typing fast or speaking another
language, write them down.
• References - You can say "References Available Upon Request," but it's not needed. If you
do, have a list of people ready who can talk about you. Make sure you ask them first and
give their work numbers if you can. You only need to give this list if the employer asks for
it.
