(2) Eligibility Criteria for escorting and operation of DA set and for maintenance of Diesel engines:

2.2 In-house Maintenance (A,B,C,D & E Check)
i. Procurement of Spares: The maintenance of DA sets should shift to ‘kit based’ system for every
schedule. These kits and spares should be procured from OEM or their authorized dealers by the
Zonal Railways undertaking the maintenance work. The make wise kits for individual schedules
except ‘E’ Check have been standardized by RDSO and rate contract is being processed by RCF.
ii. Apart from the maintenance kits, Railways may procure and keep some major components like
engine head, crank shaft, cam shaft, engine block etc as spares for attending major breakdowns of
DA sets. Above spares should be procured from the OEM or their authorized dealers.
iv. DA set must be load tested after every check as prescribed by OEMs.
i. Procurement of Spares: The maintenance of DA sets should shift to ‘kit based’ system. These kits
and spares should be procured from OEM or their authorized dealers only.
ii. Eligibility criteria: DA set maintenance should be done by respective OEMs or by their authorized
dealers of Diesel Engines of power cars of 500 KVA capacitiy.
iii. DA set must be load tested after every check as prescribed by OEMs.
iv. D & E schedule to be preferably done in Railway Workshops.
Note:
i. For ease of maintenance, Rate Contract for B, C, D & other spares is being processed by RCF.
Railways and other executing agencies should use this Rate Contract for material required by them.
ii. Material to be procured from rate contract as referred as (iii). Wherever such rate contract is not
available the same should be procured by ZR from OEMs or their authorized dealers only.
In view of above, Divisions/Depots/CRW(HRT) are advised to follow the guidelines for maintenance
periodicity with immediate effect and eligibility criteria for maintenance/repair of DA sets in power cars .

instruc ons issued by Railway Board vide reference(iii), following is issued with the approval of Board(MTRS):
(1) Periodicity of Maintenance Schedules:

Note: Running hours/months/weeks whichever is earlier.
i. The schedule of alternator should also be same as that of diesel engine.
ii. This is applicable for all power cars irrespec ve of their working in HOG or EOG system, since running hours will take
care of their working in EOG & periodicity will take care of their working in HOG system.
iii. Above periodicity is applicable for completed sets.
(2) Eligibility Criteria for escor ng, opera on and ‘A’ Check of DA set and for maintenance of Diesel engines.
1. The escor ng & ‘A’ Check will be done by the same agency who is engaged for B Check & C Check.
2. If appropriate/adequate person is available in TL/AC wing. Then no contract to be done and sta to be u lized
for escor ng and ‘A’ check.
i. Procurement of Spares: The maintenance of DA sets should shi to ‘kit based’ system. Spares have to be
procured from OEM/OEM’s authorized dealers only, by the agency undertaking the maintenance work.
ii. Eligibility criteria: The rm should have experience of maintenance (including AMC & CMC)/manufacture of
minimum 500 KVA DA sets. The rm should have manufactured at least 50 DA sets of 500 KVA capacity or
should have successfully executed maintenance work (including AMC & CMC) of DA sets of minimum 500 KVA
capacity for minimum 1200 units ( calculated as –DA sets x months) during last ve years and should have
manpower with competency for working on voltages 750 V or above.
iii. A er B/C check, DA set must be run on rake load as prescribed by OEMs.
i.
Procurement of Spares: The maintenance of DA sets for D check should shi to ‘kit based’ system. Spares for D
& E checks have to be procured from OEM/OEM’s authorized dealers by the agency undertaking the
maintenance work.
ii. Eligibility criteria: The rm should have experience of maintenance of minimum D/M4 check/manufacture of
minimum 500 KVA DA sets. The rm should have manufactured at least 50 DA sets of minimum 500 KVA
capaci es or should have successfully executed maintenance work (minimum D/M4 check) of DA sets of
minimum 500 KVA capacity for minimum 50 nos. of D/M4 schedule/E/M5 schedule or both, during last ve
years and should have manpower with competency for working on voltages 750V or above.
iii. A er D/M4/E/M5 check DA sets must be tested on load as prescribed by OEMs.
iv. The ac vi es of D/M4 check & E/M5 check should preferably be undertaken by workshop, nominated by
respec ve Zonal Railway who will decide on outsourcing or in-house overhaul at their end based on TL/AC
manpower availability.
Note:
i. A centralized Rate contract for procurement of kits by RCF has been ini ated in reference to RB le er dated
05.02.2024. These RCs will help in mely availability of material required for power cars.
ii. Zonal Railways shall ensure that procurement of spares is done from OEM/OEM’s authorized dealers only.
List of authorized dealers to be provided by OEMs with validity.
iii. E ort should be made to synchronize shop schedules with DA set schedules to reduce the down me of
power cars.
