An activity that I am very strongly involved in is volunteering. I find it is a great way to give
back and have community involvement.
I love this activity because I can learn a lot of new things while volunteering. For example, I’ve
learned soft skills like compassion, empathy, and I love the feeling of making other people
happy.
I started this hobby a few year ago and I believe I will continue to do this in the future.
I often volunteer two to three times every month at my local homeless shelter.
4. Do you prefer doing your favorite activities alone or with other people? Why?
I prefer doing your favorite activities with my brother. He is two years younger than me, and I
play with him always. I rarely spend time alone, sometimes I also like to spend time with my
friends as they are like-minded and we would definitely have a great conversation.
5. What is the name of the sport or game you like? Why do you like it?
My favorite sport is football and I usually play it after school with my friends, sometimes if I
have a long holiday I will arrange a small football match with my old classmates.
I love this sport because it helps to improve my physical and mental health. I can also learn
teamwork skills and I can make a lot of friends who are now my best playmates.
I prefer outdoor activities beause they are fun and very helpful for children’s development
7. Do you enjoy doing arts and crafts? What type of arts and crafts do you enjoy doing?
Yes, definitely. Activities like drawing can not only feel rewarding, they help lower stress, too
Actually, I love both of then because I can learn the same things like communication, discipline,
confidence, how to listen, how to focus, how to deal with rejection.
Extracurriculars are an important part of my school life. I will get to explore new activities, try
different things, and see what I am passionate about. I will start to get a better idea of who I
am. I love Community service, which includes any sort of volunteer work in my community.
I am very busy, so whenever I have free time, I will take part in extra-curriculum classes
City life is bustling, and you will always find things to do and many cities attract big
populations because of endless activities, great food, and better jobs, it’s no surprise many
people dream of making the move to the cities.
While city life has a ton to offer, it can also come with drawbacks. It is difficult for me to have
my personal space. Sidewalks, grocery stores, bars, and other public places are more crowded
in the city than they are in the country. The cost of living tends to be a lot higher than in the
suburbs or rural areas. I also don’t like the noise from traffic.
Yes, of course, it is very good for youngsters to grow up in a city because it provides them a lot
of opportunities not only related to the educational sector but also in getting them employment.
4. Is your hometown a big city or a small place?
My hometown is a medium-size city, so it normally takes local people less time to commute. We
can save a lot of time.
Even though the countryside life is peaceful, I prefer to live in a large city simply for the
reasons that I had stated before. I’m an outgoing person, so I like to meet with a variety of
friends throughout the week and enjoy different venues
They usually play chess because it is a popular game and it can keep them separated from their
boredom. They also love reading because they have a lot of fun.
I love The Lunar New Year, or Tết because it is Vietnam’s largest and most important festival.
I love Tet the most, because it is the biggest festival of the year for family get-togethers. Tet
Holiday is considered the best occasion for family members to return home and get together.
I celebrate each festival by doing something which makes me feel happy and I want to share
happiness with my family members and friends. For example, every year on Tet holiday, my
family go out to see how people are celebrating the event.
Absolutely. As the industry and economy are increasing, more and more factories are showing
up, causing air pollution. Moreover, people throw waste into the bodies of water, causing water
pollution. Lastly, as there are many new construction projects and traffic jams, noise pollution
is also on the rise.
2. What will happen if people keep throwing trash on the streets/ in the rivers/ in the sea?
If people keep littering along the road, on the streets or by the litter bins, toxic materials or
chemicals in litter can be blown or washed into rivers, forests, lakes and oceans, and,
eventually can pollute waterways, soil or aquatic environments.
3. What will happen if cars, motorbikes and factories keep polluting the air?
They can cause immediate and long-term effects on the environment and polluting the air is one
of the largest sources of global greenhouse effect.
4. Why do you think pollution has become such a significant problem in the modern world?
Well, to be honest, I think it’s largely down to industrialisation and the consumer-driven society
we live in. We’re using non-renewable resources at an alarming rate, which contributes
significantly to pollution.
I believe so, yes. Governments have the power and resources to enforce regulations on
industries contributing to pollution. For instance, they could raise people’s awareness of eco-
friendly practices and invest in renewable energy.
I’m not an expert on this, but I guess reducing, reusing, and recycling waste is the first things to
start. Also, switching to renewable energy sources can make the situation better.
7. How has the situation regarding pollution changed from the past, and what do you foresee for
the future?
In the past, the effects of pollution were not as widespread as they are today. As far as I know, if
we continue like this, the situation will get worse. However, I’m optimistic that if we act now
and embrace sustainable practices, we can improve the air quality and we can make the world
a better place for future generations.
8. Is pollution a significant issue in your country?
When lights, TVs, computers, video games, and other devices are left on and aren’t being used,
they waste electricity. We can help conserve energy by turning off all lights and devices when
leaving a room for more than a few minutes.
10. What do you think students like you should do to reduce trash on the streets?
One of the best ways to reduce trash on the streets is to improve recycling systems. Littering
trash on the street is an environmental issue and littering is often a criminal offense. This
should be punishable with a fine.
UNIT 4: DISASTERS
1. What types of disasters usually happen in your area? What happens most often?
2. What was the biggest disaster ever in your area? When did it happen?
Each natural disaster brings its own type of devastation and damage. Typhoon Noru in 2022
was the biggest disaster in my area.
As I told you, Typhoon Noru made landfall near my hometown, bringing powerful winds and
heavy rain as hundreds of thousands of people were evacuated.
Floods can result from rain, snow, coastal storms, overflows of rivers, and dam failure. Floods
can be very dangerous. People should evacuate before floodwaters come and reach out to the
Flooding is by far the most frequent and damaging natural disaster in my country. People
should prepare their emergency plan. They should know how to get information from officials
and try to locate the nearest shelter.
People should know how to safely operate a fire extinguisher and remember to GET OUT,
STAY OUT and call the local emergency phone number. If people must escape through smoke,
get low and go under the smoke to the exit. If they live in a building with elevators, use the
stairs. They should leave all the belongings where they are and save themselves.
People should install the right number of smoke alarms and teach children what smoke alarms
sound like and what to do when they hear one. Make sure that all favmily members know ways
to escape from every room of their home.
They should know the storm evacuation sites by contacting their local government or
emergency management office
They should prepare their own food, water and other supplies to last for at least 72 hours
People should have Emergency Kit such as flashlights, First aid kit, Extra batteries and Whistle
(to signal for help)
