HiMy, name is Rituparn Dutta and I became interested in Japanese culture in the fifth grade when my teacher
did a lecture on Japan and showed us some pictures of Kanazawa Station.Icouldn't stop thinking about
itAfter, showing much curiosity, my teacher provided me with supplementary materials to assist me in learning
more about the country's traditions. All I wanted ,was to learn about the language, the culture and their roots
,as much as Icould. I knew that I have always wanted to teach and travel to Japan.
Teaching was not something that I was interested in my childhood and all I wanted to be was a doctor or an
engineer, however my father brought me a book named The Tale of Genzi by Murasaki Shikibsy and the novel
itched in my heart and somehowit piqued my curiosity about how people in Japan as so much in touch with
their roots and traditions yet have shown enormous growth in terms of science and technology.
I started my journey as a teacher in the year of 2021 as an online English Instructor when I started teaching
English online to students from Spain although l knew I was a novice, I took up a certification for teaching
English as a foreign language called CELTA which Icompleted from Kolkata and after a year, Itravelled to Delhi
and took up jobs as an IELTS Trainer as well as taught grammar to both children as young as 10 and adults
aged 18 and above. Living now in Ahmedabad and teaching English now gives me a sense of fulfilment and |
believe this experience willa stepping stone to further teach English language in a new nation as well as
enhance my knowledge about Japan ,the anguage and its cultyreMoreover, I have improved my capacity to
establish and I believe the Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme ET) will give me the opportunity to
teach in schools while sharing my knowledge and experiences of growing up in India.
Ihave always had a keen interest in Japan and Iam willing to deepen my knowledge and appreciation for this
nation. Iwill be able to adapt to living and working conditions which can be significantly different from my
home country. Previously, lhave had an experience as a communication trainer and I believe ,applying for the
position of an Assistant Language Trainer in Japan ,I will be able to play a key role in promoting communicative
training in the classroom as well as utilize my communication abilities to draw out their interests and build trust.
In order to build strong ties within the community and establisha venue for cross-cultural contacts, Thope to
draw on my experience in cross-cultural interactions. Ihope that even after my time on JET, I willcontinue to
work to spark interest around the world.
Working as an Assistant Language Teacher for the Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme would allow me
to contribute to grassroots internationalization efforts in Japan. After completing the JET Program, I hope to
keep up good relations with Japan and inspire people to become more interested in globalization by traveling
abroad and interacting with foreigners.
