Description
These are instructions for installing Java 8 and launching Oracle Java forms. There are also notes
regarding using Java Web Start, where applicable.

This is applicable for all Oracle eBusiness Suite 11i and R12 environments.

The Java 8 client will be pushed to most people and shared PC’s through SCCM. In case the SCCM push
doesn’t work correctly, people were missed, new users, or PC replacements, then use one of the
following options (Software Center or Manual Install).
SCCM Push (forced install):
The Java 8 client will be pushed to all existing ES R12 and VG R12/11i users. The install is not silent, and
people will see the following messages.

The installer will close all Java, Internet Explorer, Edge and Chrome windows.

The installer will close all Java


and web browsers. You have 60
minutes to finish your work and
continue.

If you have not closed all Java


and browsers within 60 minutes,
then the installer will force them
to be closed.

If you already have Java 8


installed, it will be removed and
reinstalled.

You will see the following


screens. They can be ignored.
When install is complete, click
OK.

At this point, you can use the


new Java 8 client by launching
Oracle.

You can use IE or Edge.

If prompted with the following,


check “Do not ask again” and
then select “Later”

Software Center Instructions:


This is a self-service install option available to everyone on Aug 9.

The installer will close all Java, Internet Explorer, Edge and Chrome windows.
In Windows Search, look for
Software Center and open it.

Search for Java, select


“Java(TM) 8 Update 321 with
cert” and then select “Install”.
The Java install will run mostly
silent. A command prompt may
appear on screen for a minute,
and it should be ignored.
The installer will close all Java
and web browsers. You have 60
minutes to finish your work and
continue.

If you have not closed all Java


and browsers within 60 minutes,
then the installer will force them
to be closed.

If you already have Java 8


installed, it will be removed and
reinstalled.

You will see the following


screens. They can be ignored.
When install is complete, click
OK.

At this point, you can use the


new Java 8 client by launching
Oracle.

You can use IE or Edge.

If prompted with the following,

Manual Install Instructions:

This Java 8 install option is available as a workaround in case there are issues with the SSCM or Software
Center deployments. Admin privileges are not required for this on Eaton computers.

It is highly recommended that you close all Java, Internet Explorer, Edge and Chrome windows before
installing.

Download and install the Oracle JRE 1.8.0_321 (Windows 10)


This Java Runtime Environment is preferred to access Oracle eBusiness Applications 11i,
Java client from the EDM R12.1, R12.2 - HR, MDM, EISPL, GFSS, VG, ES, ISSC and FSC/SASC environments. PC
Website admin privileges are not required for installing this on Eaton computers.

It’s important to install


into directory
“C:\Program Files
(x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_321”
If there are older versions
of Java installed, you can
optionally remove them.

It is not necessary to
remove them.

Click “Not Now”. Or


optionally, you can try to
“Uninstall” if you wish.

Either option is fine.

Then install the following Eaton Certificate for Java


Download and execute this batch script to deploy an Eaton certificate to Java. This is required
deployment certificate for Oracle R12 systems that use Java Web Start.
from the EDM Website:

You will see the following


screen briefly.

The deployment is
complete when the
window closes.
At this point, you can use
the new Java 8 client by
launching Oracle.

You can use IE or Edge.

If prompted with the


following, check “Do not
ask again” and then
select “Later”

Enable Multiple Forms capability (Optional)


If you want the ability to use
multiple forms sessions from
within the same environment,
then you need to enable this
option.

This is only applicable to


R12.2 environments that have
Java Web Start enabled.

If JWS is not configured, then


this option will be greyed out
and not applicable.

On the Preferences page,


check “Always Launch New
Forms Session” and click
Apply button.
Launch Oracle Forms with Java Web Start
For Oracle systems that are configured with Java Web Start:
You can use Oracle R12 normally at this point through IE or Edge. Edge is preferred since IE will be
disabled soon at Eaton. In addition, you can also use other browsers like Chrome or Firefox if they are
installed.

Edge:

You may be prompted


Open a frmservlet.jnlp
file. You need to open
the file to launch the
Java forms.
Chrome:

You may be prompted


to Keep and Open a
frmservlet.jnlp file.
You need to open the
file to launch the Java
forms.

On Edge browser view output downloaded as FNDWRR.txt and fails to open with "Authentication
failed" error (Doc ID 2827347.1)

To implement the solution, please execute the following steps:

1. Open Edge browser

2. 3-dots menu button present at the right-side of the toolbar. Now select Settings
option from the main menu.

3. Click on Downloads tab in left sidebar


4. In right-side pane, you’ll see Open Office files in the browser

5. set the Open Office files in the browser toggle option to OFF. or Disable.

6. Re-login and retest the issue.

The Highlighted option should be disabled for Downloading .xls related output.
