Welcome to class!

In today’s class, we will be talking about computer

features. Enjoy the class!

Computer Features

Features of a computer are properties of a computer

that makes it stand-out. Some of the features include:

1. Speed
2. Accuracy
3. Consistency and Repetitiveness
4. Storage
5. Processing
6. Automatic
7. Versatility
8. Non-intelligent

Speed:
A computer processes data at a very fast rate. It takes
only a few seconds to perform a task that would be
completed in hours. Most computers work in micro and
nanoseconds. The speed is measured in MegaHertz
(MHz) and GigaHertz (GHz).

Accuracy:
The correctness of the job performed by the computer
depends solely on the data and programs given to the
computer. The accuracy of a computer system depends
on the programmer because it (the computer) will
always do exactly what it is instructed to do i.e. GIGO-
Garbage In Garbage Out. The errors in the computer are
due to human error.

Consistency and
Repetitiveness:
A computer will always give the same result when
presented with the same set of data repeatedly using
the same program and data

Storage:
In recent times, the storage devices of a computer have
a very large capacity in terms of Terabytes, which is
used for storage of data for future use. Data on
computer storage devices can be easily edited,
retrieved when needed, more so they can be deleted.
Some measurements are listed below:

4 bit = 1 Nibble

8 bit or 2 Nibble = 1 Byte

1024 Byte = 1 KiloByte (1 KB)

*1024 KB = 1 MegaByte (1 MB)

1024 MB = 1 GigaByte (1 GB)

1024 GB = 1 TeraByte (1 TB)

Processing:
A computer can process at great speed a large amount
of data. During processing, different operations occur
such as input and output operation, text manipulation
operation, etc.

Versatility:
Versatility is the capacity of a computer performing
multiple tasks at the same time i.e. multitasking; and
therefore, performing different types of work
completely.

Automatic:
A computer is an automatic machine that works without
the intervention of the user but the user is required to
feed the data and make use of the result (output).

We hope you enjoyed the class.
