Abdullahi Mire won U.N. Nansen award for educating displaced children
Abdullahi Mire, a former Somali refugee intent on bringing books and education to his
compatriots in camps in Kenya was named the winner of the UN refugee agency’s
prestigious Nansen Award.
Mr. Mire was born in Somalia, but amid unrest there his family fled to Kenya.
He spent 23 years in Dadaab, a complex of three camps that were initially built in the
1990s to host some 90,000 refugees.
Rishab Shetty honored with special jury award for 'Kantara' at IFFI 54
Renowned Indian filmmaker, actor, and writer Rishab Shetty received the special jury
award for his groundbreaking work on 'Kantara' at the prestigious 54th IFFI.
The Jury's recognition of Shetty's directorial expertise highlighted his ability to convey
narratives that, while rooted in indigenous culture, resonate universally, transcending
cultural and societal boundaries.
The Ministry of Ayush has been awarded the Gold Medal by the ‘India Trade Promotion
Organization’ for its excellent performance in the ‘Ministries and Departments’ category
of the Indian International Trade Fair.
The Ministry had created an Ayush pavilion with various activities in the fair with the aim
of promoting scientific evidence based Ayush treatment methods.

Safeena Husain, Founder, Educate Girls, has been awarded the prestigious WISE Prize for
Education at the WISE 11 Summit (World Innovation Summit for Education).
The WISE Prize for Education is the first global distinction of its kind that honours an
individual for outstanding contribution to education.
She is the first Indian woman to win the WISE Prize for Education.

PRSI National Awards: NHPC got 2nd prize in 'Annual Report' category
NHPC Limited has won the 2nd prize under the 'Annual Report' category of 'PRSI National
Awards 2023'.
The award was presented during the International Public Relations Festival organized
by Public Relations Society of India (PRSI) from 25th to 27th November 2023 in New Delhi.
The award recognized the overall high-quality, layout and design of NHPC Annual Report
2022-23.
Aditi Ashok held her nerve to pull off a two-shot win over Anne Van Dam in the Andalucia
Costa del Sol Open de Espana, which is the year-ending tournament on the Ladies
European Tour, at Real Club de Golf Las Brisas.
Aditi, who won the season-opener in Kenya, completed the unique feat of winning the
opening and closing events of the season on the Tour.

Irish writer Paul Lynch wins Booker Prize for novel 'Prophet Song'
Irish writer Paul Lynch has won the 2023 Booker Prize for his novel 'Prophet Song',
beating London-based Indian-origin author Chetna Maroo's debut novel "Western Lane",
at a ceremony in London.
Forty-six-year-old Lynch won for his novel presenting a dystopian vision of Ireland in the
grips of totalitarianism, something the author describes as an attempt at radical
empathy.
In the China Masters Badminton 2023, Indian duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag
Shetty lost to the World No 1 Chinese pair of Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang 19-21, 21-
18, and 19-21 in the men's doubles final.
The Indian pair showed remarkable improvement to level the score in second game.
However the Chinese pair won the third and final game to clinch the title.
Ujjwala, the sparrow, as mascot for Khelo India Para Games 2023
First-ever Khelo India Para Games 2023 logo and mascot Ujjwala were launched in New
Delhi.
'Ujjwala', a sparrow, was unveiled as the official mascot of Khelo India - Para Games 2023.

In the World 6 Red Women Snooker Championships, Vidya Pillai secured Gold to clinch
the title of World Champion.
In the final, she defeated compatriot Anupama Ramachandran by 4-1 frames, who settled
for Silver.
Vidya earlier defeated top seed Bai Yulu of China by 4-3 frames in semi-final round.

‘Odh’ bags best film award at ‘75 Creative Minds of Tomorrow’ in IFFI
In Goa, the refreshing and thought-provoking short film on receding beach lines of Goa,
‘Odh’ has won the best film award at the ‘75 Creative Minds of Tomorrow’ film
challenge held at the 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI).
The film addresses the issue of receding beach lines of Goa, due to the rise in the sea
levels and mass constructions happening on the beaches.
A 13-year-old Indian-origin Yoga prodigy from south-east England with several awards
under his belt has added another Gold Medal to his tally at the European Yoga Sports
Championship in Sweden.
Ishwar Sharma is from Sevenoaks in Kent, U.K.
He started taking up Yoga when he was three years old after seeing his father practise
daily and went on to win several World Yoga Championships.
Anish Bhanwala won Bronze in men’s rapid fire pistol event in ISSF WC
In Shooting, Indian shooter Anish Bhanwala won the bronze medal in the men’s 25m
rapid fire pistol event at the ISSF World Cup Final 2023.
It took place in Doha, Qatar.
Competing at the Lusail Shooting Range, Anish Bhanwala scored 27 out of 35 for third
place in the final.
It was also the first medal for India in the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol event in the ISSF
World Cup Final history.
Vijayawada Railway Station has been given Platinum Certification- The Highest Standard
IGBC (Indian Green Building Council) Rating.
The title was conferred to Vijayawada Railway Station chiefs at Green Building Congress
held at Chennai Trade Centre.

Mohali-based Deepti Babuta has become the first woman to bag the Dhahan Prize, the
largest international literary award for fiction books in Punjabi language.
Babuta received the award for her short story collection, ‘Bhukh Eon Sah Laindi Hai’
(‘Hunger Breathes Like This’).
She was presented with a cash award of $25,000 CAD and a trophy at a ceremony held
at Surrey, British Columbia, Canada.
Indian cueist Pankaj Advani rallied to win the IBSF World Billiards Championship title for a
staggering 26th time.
He defeated his compatriot Sourav Kothari in the final.
Trailing 26-180 in the first hour, Advani rallied to defeat the 2018 world champion Kothari

Perumal Murugan wins JCB Prize for Literature 2023 for ‘Fire Bird’
Author Perumal Murugan won the JCB Prize for Literature for his book Fire Bird.
Translated from Tamil by Janani Kannan, and originally published as Aalanda Patchi, the
book explores the innate human desire for stability.
The winner of the JCB Prize for Literature receives a cash award of ₹25 lakh, and the
translator ₹10 lakh.
