    SPREADING MACHINE

    SPREADING
    It is a process of laying down many layers of
    fabric each on the top of proceeding ones by
    several methods and machines as per the fabric
    and garment characteristic.

    SPREAD
    A spread or layup is the total amount of fabric
    prepared for a single marker.
    The height of spread is limited by : Vertical capacity of the spreader
    Cutting method
    Fabric characteristic
    Size of order placed

    BASIC SPREADING EQUIPMENT


    CONSIST OF:Spreading surfaces
    Spreading machine
    Fabric control devices
    Fabric cutting devices

    Spreading table should be covered with layer of


    paper before the fabric is spread. Reason being: Protects the fabric from spots on table surfaces.
    Prevents the base plate on the cutting knife from
    distorting lower plies of fabric.

    Spreading surface needs to be about 10 inches


    wider than the fabric

    TURNTABLE

    PIN TABLES
    Pin tables have rows of pins located below the
    surface that can be extended through slats to
    hold fabric in a precise location for accurate
    matching of pattern repeats.

    VACUUM TABLES
    Vacuum tables are used to compress the lay-up
    and prevent shifting or movement during cutting.
    The spread is covered with plastic film that forms
    a seal over the lay-up when a vacuum is applied.
    E.g. quilted fabric

    AIR FLOATATION TABLE


    These tables when activated, allow easy
    movement of a lay-up on to an adjacent cutting
    area. It reduces friction and allows the lay-up to
    be moved easily without putting stress on the
    fabric. It helps the operator to shift fabrics like
    denim easily.

    CONVEYOR TABLES
    Servomotor controlled conveyor table. The fabric is
    correctly aligned with cutting machine by means
    of the conveyor belt

    TRANSFER

    Transfer tables to move spreading machines to


    other tables and feed different cutting lines

    FABRIC CONTROL DEVICES IN A


    SPREADING MACHINE
    Tensioning
    It involves synchronizing the rate of spreading
    with the rate fabric is unrolled
    Positioning devices
    This device and sensors monitor position and
    control fabric placement during spreading.
    Electronic edge sensors monitor selvages as
    fabric is spread. Alignment can be held to 1/8th
    inch as tolerance.

    Width indicators
    It may sound an alarm to alert the operator when
    ever fabric becomes narrower than the
    established width
    End treatment devices
    They are used with spreaders but are separate
    and placed at the end of the spread. The specific
    end treatment equipment needed depends on
    whether the spreading mode is face to face or face
    one way.

    KNIFE BOX
    A knife box contains a cutting unit (a small
    rotary knife) that operates in a track and cuts
    across the fabric width when engaged
