Republic Act 9729:

Climate Change Act of 2009

Objective

Aims to systemically integrate the concept of climate change


in the policy formulation and development plan of all
government agencies and units for the preparation of the
impact of climate change

Highlights of the law:

An independent and autonomous body and shall have the same status
as that of a national government agency. It shall be attached to the
Office of the President.
The Commission shall be composed of the President of the Philippines
shall serve as the Chairperson, and three (3) Commissioners to be
appointed by the President, one of whom shall serve as the Vice
Chairperson of the Commission. (Section 5, RA 9729)

Highlights of the law:

The Commission shall meet once every three (3) months, or as often
as may be deemed necessary by the Chairperson. The Chairperson
may likewise call upon other government agencies for the proper
implementation of this Act. (Section 6, RA 9729)

Highlights of the law:

The Commissioners must be Filipino citizens, residents of the Philippines,


at least thirty (30) years of age, with at least ten (10) years of experience
on climate change and of proven honesty and integrity. At least one (1)
Commissioner shall be female.
The Commissioners shall hold office for a period of six (6) years, and may
be subjected to reappointment and shall not serve for more than two (2)
consecutive terms.

Highlights of the law:

The Vice Chairperson and the Commissioners shall have


the rank and privileges of a Department Secretary and
Undersecretary, respectively. They shall be entitled to
corresponding compensation and other salaries and
shall be subject to the same disqualifications. (Section
7, RA 9729)

Conclusion

The Climate Change Act was enacted to protect the


right of the people to a balance and healthful ecology.
The law serves as an action plan that lays out the
strategies, initiatives, and activities to prepare the
country to the inevitable effects of climate.

Environmental Awareness Education Act


of 2008

This Act provides for the promotion of environmental


awareness through environmental education which
shall encompass:

environmental concepts and principles,

environmental laws,
the state of international and local environment,
local environmental best practices,
the threats of environmental degradation and its impact on human well-being,
the responsibility of the citizenry to the environment and the value of conservation,
protection and rehabilitation of natural resources and the environment.

education and awareness programs on
environmental protection and conservation.
