New
Radicals
For the opening few shots of the music video 'You Get What You Give' by New Radicals, there a
bunch of rebellious young hipsters which wear late 90s style which inspires me in costume and
characters. We may not be in the 90s no more but this generation gave me some good visual
ideas of how the characters will dress up. My thinking was to merge together the clothing of
youth today to make the music video modern and cool. This is where inspiration modern music
video, Lets Skip To The Good Bit comes in.

LOCATION/SETTING
MISE EN SCENE
When considering what the style of my music video is, I ensured in all my
video, the colour changes to give the video a somewhat dirty feel and look,
which matched the teenagers in it, as they are spraying graffiti and skipping
classes, the colour changes make it less refined, as that is what the
teenagers are being.
I made sure that there was either a red or blue tinted feel to each shot I
included.
COLOUR/LIGHTING
Colour correction enabled me to experiment with the Three-Way Colour Corrector
which would enable to play around with a separate effect: RGB Curves. It enabled
me to enhance with the different waveforms of the reds, greens, blues etc in the Split
View Percent.
For example with the alleyway clips, I managed to produce a nice red kind of effect by
enhancing the reds, as I think it makes the footage look warm and have a good effect
as it matches the colour of the bricks. Whereas the classroom and home clips, I
focused more on enhancing the blues to make it seem like an early morning, as it
has a tinted feel to it.
Post Production
EDITING
Using Adobe Premiere
When going into the post production stage, I had the intention of cutting to the beat
of the song. Whenever a beat I would cut and there would be a new shot. By doing
this my music video is always moving at a good fast pace which fits in with the song.
Before production, I wrote down on my storyboard how long each shot is going to be
in duration and worked off that when I began editing all the clips together. This was
beneficial to me when actually shooting my footage because I would roughly know
how many shots I needed to capture. I did include extra shots in case I didnt quite
meet the required video duration time.
