WHAT IS A COLD?
A cold is caused by a virus.
It is contagious, viral and is
infectious.
It affects the upper respiratory
system caused by coronaviruses and
rhinoviruses.
SYMPTOMS:
Cough
Fever
Sore Throat
Runny Nose
Muscle aches
Fatigue
Head Aches
SYMPTOMS:
Loss of Appetite
Shivering
Nasal Congestion
PROGRESSION:
Viral reproduction takes place.
Symptoms show after 2 to 5
days of initial contact.
Colds normally last for 2 to 3
weeks.
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY:
The virus enters the nose and
attaches itself to the cell’s
surface.
When the virus successfully
enters the cell, it starts it’s
reproduction there.

is usually very quick and since
colds are self-limiting, it can be
resolved right away.
HOW IT AFFECTS US:
Colds is the most common
illness in the world.
There isn’t a specific medicine
to treat it.
We usually just feel the

weeks, see a doctor right away

Good hygiene and healthy eating
is a good way to prevent a cold.

attain a strong wall of defence
against colds.

can be helpful but taking in of
any medication must be
observed.

children and pregnant women
should consult the doctor first.

To prevent colds one must clean
both herself and also her
surroundings. Usually, coughs
and colds are contacted because
of the environment that
surround the person.
PREVENTION:
It is better to prevent than to
look for a cure. Before minor
illnesses like coughs and colds
get complicated, we should all
take care of ourselves.
Eat well and stay fit to avoid
illness.
