 The British royal family comprises Queen Elizabeth II and
her close relations. There is no strict legal or formal
definition of who is or is not a member of the British royal
family.
 A list of the current royal family will usually include the
monarch, the children and male-line grandchildren of the
monarch and previous monarchs, the children of the eldest
son of the Prince of Wales, and all their current or widowed
spouses.
 Since 1917, when King George V changed the name of the
royal house from Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, members of the
royal family belong, either by birth or by marriage, to
the House of Windsor. Senior titled members of the royal
family do not usually use a surname, although since
1960 Mountbatten-Windsor, incorporating Prince Philip's
adopted surname of Mountbatten, has been prescribed as a
surname for Elizabeth II's direct descendants who do not
have royal styles and titles, and it has sometimes been used
when required for those who do have such titles.
 Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and
Gotha (Francis Albert Augustus
Charles Emmanuel, 26 August 1819
– 14 December 1861) was the
husband of Queen Victoria.He was
born in the Saxon duchy to a
family connected to many of
Europe's ruling monarchs. At the
age of 20, he married his first
cousin, Queen Victoria; they had
nine children.In 1857, Albert was
given the formal title of Prince
Consort.
 Albert died at the relatively
young age of 42. Victoria was so
devastated at the loss of her
husband that she entered into a
deep state of mourning and wore
black for the rest of her life. On
her death in 1901, their eldest
son succeeded as Edward VII, the
first British monarch of the House
of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, named
after the ducal house to which
Albert belonged.
 Mary of Teck (Victoria
Mary Augusta Louise Olga
Pauline Claudine Agnes; 26
May 1867 – 24 March 1953)
was Queen of the United
Kingdom and the British
Dominions and Empress of
India as the wife of King
George V. Although
technically a princess of
Teck, in the Kingdom of
Württemberg, she was born
and raised in England. Her
parents were Francis, Duke
of Teck, who was of
German extraction, and
Princess Mary Adelaide of
Cambridge, who was a
granddaughter of King
George III. She was
informally known as "May",
after her birth month.
 Princess Alice of the
United Kingdom (Alice
Maud Mary; 25 April
1843 – 14 December
1878), Grand Duchess of
Hesse and by Rhine, was
the third child and
second daughter of
Queen Victoria and
Prince Albert. Alice was
the first of Queen
Victoria's nine children
to die, and one of three
to be outlived by their
mother, who died in
1901.
EDWARD VII (Albert Edward; 9
November 1841 – 6 May 1910)
was King of the United Kingdom
of Great Britain and
Ireland and Emperor of
India from 22 January 1901 until
his death in 1910.
 He played a role in the
modernisation of the British
Home Fleet and the
reorganisation of the British
Army after the Second Boer War.
He reinstituted traditional
ceremonies as public displays and
broadened the range of people
with whom royalty socialised. He
fostered good relations between
Britain and other European
countries, especially France, for
which he was popularly called
"Peacemaker"
 Princess Alexandra, The
Honourable Lady
Ogilvy,(Alexandra Helen
Elizabeth Olga
Christabel; born 25
December 1936) is a
member of the British
royal family.
 Alexandra was born
during the reign of King
George VI to his brother
and sister-in-law, Prince
George, Duke of Kent,
and Princess Marina of
Greece and Denmark.
She is a first cousin of
the current British
monarch, Queen
Elizabeth II.
 George V (George Frederick Ernest
Albert; 3 June 1865 – 20 January
1936) was King of the United
Kingdom and the British Dominions,
and Emperor of India, from 6 May
1910 until his death in 1936.
 Born during the reign of his
grandmother Queen Victoria,
George was third in the line of
succession behind his father, the
Prince of Wales, and his own elder
brother, Prince Albert Victor. From
1877 to 1891, George served in the
Royal Navy, until the unexpected
death of his elder brother in early
1892 put him directly in line for the
throne. On the death of his
grandmother in 1901, George's
father became King-Emperor of the
British Empire as Edward VII, and
George was created Prince of
Wales. He became king-emperor on
his father's death in 1910.
 George VI (Albert Frederick
Arthur George; 14
December 1895 – 6
February 1952) was King of
the United Kingdom and
the Dominions of
the British
Commonwealth from 11
December 1936 until his
death in 1952. He was the
last Emperor of India and
the first Head of the
Commonwealth.
 He married Lady Elizabeth
Bowes-Lyon in 1923 and
they had two
daughters, Elizabeth and M
argaret. In the mid-1920s,
he had speech therapy for
a stammer, which he never
fully overcame.
 Elizabeth Angela Bowes-
Lyon (4 August 1900 – 30
March 2002) was the wife
of King George VI and the
mother of Queen
Elizabeth II and Princess
Margaret, Countess of
Snowdon. She was Queen
consort of the United
Kingdom and
the Dominions from her
husband's accession in
1936 until his death in
1952, after which she was
known as Queen
Elizabeth The Queen
Mother, to avoid
confusion with her
daughter. She was the
last Empress of India.
 Edward VIII (Edward Albert
Christian George Andrew
Patrick David; 23 June 1894 –
28 May 1972) was King of the
United Kingdom and the
Dominions of the British
Empire, and Emperor of India,
from 20 January 1936 until his
abdication on 11 December the
same year, after which he
became the Duke of Windsor.
 Edward was the eldest son of
King George V and Queen Mary.
He was named Prince of Wales
on his sixteenth birthday, nine
weeks after his father
succeeded as king. As a young
man, he served in the British
Army during the First World
War and undertook several
overseas tours on behalf of his
father.
 Elizabeth II (Elizabeth Alexandra
Mary; born 21 April 1926) is Queen of
the United Kingdom and the
other Commonwealth realms.
 Elizabeth was born in London as the
first child of the Duke and Duchess of
York, later King George VI and Queen
Elizabeth, and she was educated
privately at home. Her father
acceded to the throne on
the abdication of his brother King
Edward VIII in 1936, from which time
she was the heir presumptive. She
began to undertake public
duties during the Second World War,
serving in the Auxiliary Territorial
Service. In 1947, she married Philip,
Duke of Edinburgh, a former prince
of Greece and Denmark, with whom
she has four children: Charles, Prince
of Wales; Anne, Princess
Royal; Andrew, Duke of York;
and Edward, Earl of Wessex.
 She is the longest-lived and longest-
reigning British monarch as well as
the world's longest-reigning queen
regnant and female head of state, the
oldest and longest-reigning current
monarch and the longest-serving
current head of state.
 Prince Philip, Duke of
Edinburgh (born Prince Philip of
Greece and Denmark,10 June 1921), is
the husband and consort of Queen
Elizabeth II.
 Philip was born into
the Greek and Danish royal families. He
was born in Greece, but his family was
exiled from the country when he was
an infant. After being educated
in France, Germany, and the United
Kingdom, he joined the British Royal
Navy in 1939, aged 18. From July 1939,
he began corresponding with the 13-
year-old Princess Elizabeth, whom he
had first met in 1934.
 After the Second World War, Philip was
granted permission by King George
VI to marry Elizabeth. Before the
official announcement of their
engagement in July 1947, he
abandoned his Greek and Danish royal
titles and became a naturalised British
subject, adopting the
surname Mountbatten from his
maternal grandparents. He married
Elizabeth on 20 November 1947. Just
before the wedding, he was
created Duke of Edinburgh. Philip left
active military service when Elizabeth
became monarch in 1952, having
reached the rank of commander, and
was formally made a British prince in
1957.
