Transient Stability Analysis of Hybrid Power System: Electrical
Abstract: Nowadays, the hybrid power system is getting popular because of its advantage
of renewable integration to the traditional power grid. In this paper, a review of the hybrid
power system is presented and detailed analysis of steady state & transient stability is
performed. For detailed analysis, IEEE 9 bus system has been adopted and modified for
this study. The proposed isolated hybrid system consists of the wind turbine, solar PV
array, energy storage system, a backup diesel generator and battery bank to study the
system analysis. The hybrid wind-solar electric power system was modeled in ETAP
software. The variation in power angle of the system after a three-phase fault is studied.
The whole system also is studied and simulated for different case studies and combination
of some outages to study the impact of disturbance in system stability.
Conclusion :
A hybrid power system consists of Solar PV, Wind turbine,Diesel Generator and energy storage system
along with energy conversion system, i.e, converter, has been broadly presented in this report. The whole
network based on IEEE 9 Bus system modified and implemented on ETAP software. However, this
hybrid system is classified as isolated network. The simulation and analysis have been applied in
different combination of operation and fault location. The impact of generation addition and rejection is
broadly discussed. Over all study outcome is summarized as the renewable generations (Solar
and wind) units have no negative impact on the stability of the system. In this paper, it is also found that
hybrid power system including solar and wind generation can meet up the load demand. The ETAP
ver. 7 does not provide solar PV symbol, so in that case solar PV system is represented by battery. At
present, solar and wind source are available at southern part of Bangladesh. As it said earlier, Hybrid
power system can be adopted by remote areas and it’s getting more popular due to economic benefit.
Isolated networks of remote areas or could be tied to the national grid when large amount of energy is
produced. As a continuation of this work, we would like to study the protection coordination problem
emerged in hybrid network.

(Integration of Renewable Energy Sources in Smart Grid )
Abstract: Smart grid technology is the key for an efficient use of distributed energy
resources. The smart grid is the future conversion for the techniques and strategies of
production and the interaction of all the components of power grid. Noting the climate
change becomes an important topic of concern, the whole world is currently facing the
ever increasing price of petroleum products, coal etc and also the reduction in cost of
renewable energy power systems, giving opportunities for renewable energy systems to
address electricity generation. However, to achieve this task, an efficient energy
management system needs to be addressed. In this context, the concept of smart grid plays
a crucial role and can be successfully applied to the power systems. This paper presents
the study of integrating renewable energy in smart grid system. The introductory part
provide the role of renewable energy and distributed generation in smart grid system The
concept of smart grid renewable energy system and its applications along with the PV
smart grid system are also been discussed and studied.
General features of smart grid:
Smart grid has different aspects and can be characterized as follows:-
● Interactive with users and markets
● Adaptive and scalable to varying situations
● optimized to make the best use of resources and equipment
● Pro-active instead of reactive to prevent emergencies
● Self-healing grids with advanced automation
● Having plug-and-play –features for network equipment and ICT solutions
● Provides real time data and monitoring
● Cost efficient
Conclusion: In this paper, the key technologies of smart grid have been studied and
reviewed. The major importance of renewable energy, renewable energy based energy
conversion systems, and distributed power generation has been reiterated. It can be
concluded that with the advancements being made in the area of renewable energy and
distributed power generation, Smart grid has a demanding and critical role in the future of
efficient power generation and distribution.
METHODOLOGY
A hybrid power system consists of Solar PV, Wind turbine,
Diesel Generator and energy storage system along with energy
conversion system.
The whole network based on 9 Bus system
modified and implemented on ETAP software.
ETAP
ETAP is the most comprehensive analysis platform for the design, simulation,
operation, and automation of generation, distribution, and industrial power
systems. ETAP is developed under an established quality assurance program
and is used worldwide as a high impact software. ETAP is completely localized in
four languages with translated output reports in six languages.
